High noon. It was a dry, hazy day, and the red dirt baked in the Mississippi sun. A ragtag posse of pups milled about aimlessly, waiting for the sweet relief of an afternoon rainshower. These dogs were healthy - they must've had a momma who did her best to take care of them - but they'd since been abandoned, and were now fending for themselves on the wild frontier of a lonely dirt road. Yessir these pups had caught a lot of tough breaks, but things were about to change for the better. A Good Samaritan took pity on the bedeviled creatures, and scooped up their sunbaked hides to take them to the local corral: ARF. It took a few baths to get all the red dust out of her fur, but when we finally saw this sweet face, we picked a name befitting of the ol' West: Dakota. Don't let the rough-and-tumble name fool you though, this girl is as sweet as Mississippi honey. She's spent the last 4 years in the shelter - yes, these dogs were rescued in 2010 - but she's spent the long days dreaming of her new home. If she's not playing with her penmate, Montana, she often sits and stares out of her pen, imagining a new life. Despite these humble beginnings, Dakota loves both people and other dogs. She is still young and healthy (if a little on the heavy side!), and we have no doubt that she'll acclimate quickly to a new family. She is spayed, up to date on shots, and ready to go home now. Let's find this little lady a homestead of her very own!
