  • Age: Adult

Jasmine is a sweet, but misunderstood, girl. She came to us as a very overweight and upset kitty. She stopped eating soon after she arrived to the shelter. With patience and trust, she began eating again and her sadness began transforming into new found hope. When she wants attention and you are not giving it to her, she will rub against your legs and meow. She is talkative and very playful with laser light toys. You can often find her in the shelter rolled over on her back, meowing with her belly exposed! With her change in diet, environment, and a more active lifestyle, she has slowly started losing weight--although, she still has a ways to go. Jasmine was surrendered to us because when the children would "play with her" she would get upset with them. We have not seen these behaviors with her around visiting children, but we still recommend for her to go to a home without small ones. *Special food- because of Jasmine's weight, we would recommend her to be on a grain free, canned food diet for the rest of her life. Currently Jasmine is eating Purina Pro Plan grain free canned food.

This kitty is currently in foster care waiting for a forever home.

What is foster care?

As a rescue organization, we think that it is so important to insure that all of our cats and kittens are both socialize and as comfortable as possible. Shelter environments are stressful but some cats do not fair as well as others. When possible, we try to utilize our foster providers to ease the transition of losing their home. In some cases, some of our cats and kittens are extremely stressed out and need to be moved out of the shelter and into a temporary foster home. This is not their permanent home and is hopefully temporary until their forever home is found. Please email us to setup a meeting to have a cat or kitten that is currently in foster care brought to the shelter to be seen. At times we may set the meeting for you to meet the cat or kitten directly in the foster environment if he/she is she and is more comfortable in the foster home. This will make for a more positive experience when trying to spend time with the cat or kitten that you are interested in meeting.

Thank you for choosing to adopt!

As a no-kill rescue, we can only bring in and save more cats and kittens in need as our current cats and kittens are adopted. This is why we say that when you adopt one cat or kitten you are actually saving TWO lives! One is the current cat or kitten that you are adopting, the second is the one that we now have room to save and place into our safe shelter.

About The Cat Corner:

The Cat Corner was founded by a very passionate and devoted animal lover, Martha Nicholson. After seeing an overwhelming number of cats homeless and being euthanized, Martha was determined to open a no-kill shelter to make a difference in these cats' lives. In 1981, Martha purchased an old barber shop at her own expense and opened The Cat Corner in Hampton, Virginia. The Cat Corner is a completely volunteer operated organization and is solely funded by donations from the community. Because of the help of our caring and hardworking volunteers and the support and donations from our community, we have been able to uphold Martha's dream and make a difference in countless lives...and doing so for over three decades!

The Cat Corner, Inc. is a nonprofit, all-volunteer-run organization that does not receive any federal, state or local government funding. We depend solely from the generosity of caring individuals from our community to continue to do our work.
