My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

RUCKUS is a 6 year old neutered chocolate male Lab who weighs 74 pounds. he is appropriately named, this wild child loverboy needs obedience training, but he will be well worth the effort! He is house and crate trained. He is so handsome and such a HAPPY boy! He is friendly and loveable, very eager to meet you. He pulls hard on leash, he’s very strong – must have an EZ Walk Harness. He will chase a ball but not ready to bring it back, and oh he LOVES tennis balls! He sat for a treat but was too interested in sniffing to stay focused. He needs to be placed with active humans who will give him time, love and exercise. Ruckus will probably overwhelm small dogs, but he interacted well with bigger dogs when introduced. MUST transport in crate due to energy and harness use. RUCKUS has not lived in a city environment and has lots of energy. He must go to a home with a fenced yard and get daily exercise and obedience training. Ruckus is approved for kids ages 10+.

Update (6/2): Ruckus is doing very well in his foster home. He loves, loves, loves chasing the tennis ball! His sit is getting more timely and he will now give 'paw' for his treats. Still working on down. I have a large mirror out in the yard propped up against the house waiting for a new home. Ruckus discovered it and I have found him posing in front of it. I think he knows its him and if could read his mind he would be thinking, "Look at you... marvelous! He is more of a cuddle bug than ever and likes using his humans as a dog bed.

Update (5/22): So Ruckus was a great passenger on his trip from the Vet and in heavy traffic for 40 minutes. He is house trained and does just fine out of the crate while I am away. He is very much a paws on dog. He likes his humans and insists on being in lap if given the chance. He loves fetching tennis balls and we can go for 20 minutes before he starts slowing down. So a yard with enough room to play would be nice for him. Ruckus knows some basic commands. He knows sit, come, and a reluctant down now an then. He does best with a Easy Walk Harness for walks. He is so excited to see and smell everything on our walks. I think Ruckus would love be in a home that had another dog to be his companion and to play with.

Update )5/12): what a great dog. We went to my house and he did the usual sniff and marking in the yard. In the house just sniffed around at first. Then the realization occurred to him that he was not just here for a few minutes and moving on. He went to the carpet and rolled all over like he was excited to be reuniting with a long lost friend. I tried a few commands and found that with SIT, he would start and then stop as if saying, "I don't have to do that for you." I tried again and waited; sure enough I got a sit. Dare I try for down? Yup, he can do that too. A great start for only an hour. He is already wanting to be a lap dog.
