Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Bates is a gentleman, quiet (for the most part), reserved and so well behaved. He is somewhere around 5 or 6 yrs old according to our vet. He is healthy, fit, and in wonderful condition. He is your standard size beagle, about 15 inches tall and between 20-25 lbs. He is still putting on a lb or two but he looks fantastic now that he has recovered from the trauma of landing in a Houston-area shelter as an unclaimed stray.
Bates would love to be an only dog. In his foster home, he pretends that he is the only dog there. There is also a cat in the foster home and Bates is just waiting for the cat to run so he can give chase -- so probably best he not go to a home with cats unless the cat is very dog savvy. Like most beagles, he has a healthy prey drive and chasing squirrels is a favorite thing to do. He will let out a loud, sharp bark when hunting but then he's done. There is never enough noise for you to have to correct him - probably because the squirrels don't stick around that long.
He does not really need to be kenneled when you are away, but will gladly go into one if you direct him to. His ideal day consists of sleeping in a dog bed, or better yet with you on the couch (he LOVES to snuggle!), chasing a squirrel or two, and hanging out. Anyone that gets him will be a very, very lucky person. He has an incredible amount of love that he so eagerly wants to give someone, and he loves everyone he meets.
The first step in our adoption process is for you to go to our website at www.HoustonBeagleRescue.org and click on "About Adoption" to complete our online application to adopt, and then someone will contact you about meeting Bates and/or our other cute beagles!
