My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.
If you are looking for a small, easy going and happy little lap dog, Lizzie’s the girl for you. Lizzie is an 8 year old, 8 pound Chihuahua/Shih Tzu mix who was surrendered to a kill shelter when her human had to go into a care facility. We rescued her from the shelter the day before she was to be euthanized. Lizzie has an excellent personality and gets along well with other dogs and cats and she is good with respectful children. Lizzie is a laid back girl who enjoys lounging around in dogs beds and hanging out with her humans. She is not a barker either. Lizzie is house trained and crate trained, although crating her is not necessary as she has excellent house manners. Lizzie does dislike inclement weather and would be best in an environment where she had a covered area to go outside in the rain and show. She does best with teens and adults. Lizzie is in foster care with Happy Hound Rescue, a 501c3 non profit, all volunteer rescue. Her adoption fee is $300 plus sales tax as required by the state. She is spayed, up to date on all shots, heartworm prevention and heartworm pills, frontline plus for fleas and ticks, worming and she has a microchip.
• Homeowners: Townhome or house

• Status of adopter: 30+

• Previous dog owning experience: Small dog experience preferred

• Age of children: Children 8 and older if gentle and respectful. She doesn’t play with kids.

• Another dog in the home: Another dog or cat would be fine but she would be happy as an only dog

• Cat(s) in the home: Safe with cats and used to them

• Fenced yard: Preferred or ALWAYS leashed

• Time alone on work days: Lilly is used to someone who is home part of the day. However if she had a feline or canine companion she would be okay for a work day.
