My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 47 lbs
Variety: Field

Meet Skippy! He came to ESRA when his family relinquished him after he became a danger to the family cats. While Skippy was under anesthesia for his neuter surgery, the vet discovered a bullet that had been lodged near Skippy's ribcage. We don't know when someone shot this sweet boy, but the resilient Skippy isn't holding any grudges.

There are two sides to Skippy, "Inside Skippy" and "Outside Skippy." "Inside Skippy" wants to please everyone, and he is easygoing and calm. He loves getting neck rubs and lying at the feet of his people. He is housetrained. "Outside Skippy" is extremely prey driven. He is looking and seeing everything: squirrels, rabbits, cats, and anything else that moves. His foster family took him to a dog park and observed him running off leash. With his long legs and trim body, this dog can fly! He walks well on a leash, but when he sees a rabbit or squirrel, he is off.

Skippy knows the commands Sit, Stay, Outside, Come, Ride, and No. He enjoys car rides, but he likes to hang out the winddow and see everything. He lives with another Springer who will try to play with him by giving him a toy to tug, but Skippy prefers to play by himself with his own toy. He especially loves stuffed animals. Skippy isn't a fan of crates, but he has proven to his foster family that he can have free rein of the house during the day, although that usually means toys all over the floor when his foster family comes home!

He is two great dogs in one, both calm and energetic. Skippy needs gentle leadership inside but firm leadership outside. It is important that his adoptive family knows how to handle a very energetic dog when he is outside. He will need lots of walks, but he'll return that commitment and leadership with loyalty, love, and snuggling.

Please note that an approved adoption application is the first step in a more thorough interview process that is designed to match each dog to exactly the right family, and that the final decision rests with the dog's case manager.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Skippy.
