We would like to thank Sarah Ernhart of Sarah Beth Photography, Minneapolis/Saint Paul, for generously donating the photos of Duke displayed here. Visit her website.
Duke is an energetic boy who LOVES to play fetch! If you cross paths with him, you'll observe this within minutes. You won't be caught just standing around with Duke nearby--you must play!
You would never guess that this boy is ten years old. He is a bundle of energy--and cute to boot! Duke's former owners took him to the shelter to make room for a new puppy. It's hard to understand this, as one of Duke's new friends described him as "the most energetic ten-year-old I've ever met!"
Duke loves children and gets along with other dogs, but he doesn't do well with cats. He is learning to trust people, and he will thrive with patience and a gentle hand. His hearing is not what it used to be, so he is learning to respond to hand signals.
Duke enjoys car rides. He lived outside before coming to ESRA, but he is quickly remembering housetraining from his earlier days. He is crate trained, but he is doing well out of the kennel when he is left home alone while his foster family is at work. Duke has some hunting experience, and he loves the outdoors.
Although Duke would really like to sit on the couch and sleep on the bed, he is not yet enjoying those luxuries at his foster home. He is being so very patient and is saving all his cuddling and loving for his new family. If you think that your family might be right for this small boy with a great big heart, please contact his case managers at the e-mail address below.
Please note that an approved adoption application is the first step in a more thorough interview process that is designed to match each dog to exactly the right family, and that the final decision rests with the dog's case manager.
Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Duke.
