My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

It's hard to imagine this truly beautiful (inside & out) Schnauzer/Terrier mix in a high-kill shelter in Houston. A compassionate Farfel's rescuer saved Willow's life and nursed her body and spirit back to joy and well-being. It was getting to the time when Willow was ready to be transported to her new life in Colorado. Although it was terribly hard for Willow's Texas foster mom to say goodbye...she knew that she will have a great life. The following is a description of Willow by her foster mom: -- Willow is such a sweet girl just waiting to blossom in a forever home. I've enjoyed watching her learn that the world can be a loving and positive place. Willow had a hard start - but now she's learned about treats, belly rubs and that she's a very valuable pup! She may very well be the sweetest and kindest dog I've ever fostered...no question about it! I definitely have a new best friend in my loving relationship with Willow! She and I take long walks together on leash several times each day...I'm really getting into shape thanks to Willow! \r\n\r\nWhile Willow has the appropriate amount of energy for a 9 - 12 month old, 44 lb pup (although never wild or crazy)...she has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia. Taking leisurely walks frequently (we've been told that this is great for dogs with this affliction) and backyard time in the sunshine would be perfect for Willow. Long hikes wouldn't be a good choice due to the stress it puts on the hips. It's fortunate that Willow has a basically mellow temperament that enables her to also be a great house companion. After time outside, Willow can lie on the couch with the best of them! She's not at a point where she requires any medication or special care for her hips. If she does get to that point, we're told an inexpensive daily medication could do the trick. We've also heard that fun swim therapy can be valuable for these dogs (although an evaluation would be necessary). If Willow ever gets to the point where surgery will give her a better quality of life, Farfel's will be happy to conduct a wine and cheese/photo event at Farfel's Farm and an on-line plea to raise funds for her care. We've done this type of fund-raising for a number of in-need dogs and have been very successful in covering the cost of their surgeries at rescue-friendly vets. Farfel's has also made the decision to lower Willow's adoption fee. We will put $200 of the fee in an account for any future meds or therapy for Willow, if they're ever necessary. \r\n\r\nWillow would do very well with a family who is home a lot to cuddle with, play with and just surround with her positive energy and silly antics. Willow loves to snuggle, be petted and has been said to not get overly grumpy about grooming...or pretty much anything. Just a very even-tempered sweetheart! Willow has gorgeous silver and black-colored hair with the most beautiful and unusual markings we've ever seen. Her non-shedding hair will require care...a periodic grooming and great nutrition would be perfect to keep her coat so beautiful and cottony-soft. Willow is great with other dogs but appreciates those that are respectful and mellow. She has been great with her foster's 12 and 13 year-old dog-crazy daughters and everyone she's ever encountered on a walk. She hasn't been observed around younger kids, but she's certainly engaging with everyone else. Willow is a truly smart pup - true to her breeds!! What a gem of a best friend for a family who wants to include a very cute and sweet dog in their life. She has everything it takes to be a truly devoted and loyal companion. She was mascot for a day at a local middle school class and couldn't have been kinder or sweeter. Farfel's is very excited to participate in finding this special Schnauzer/Terrier her forever family. \r\n\r\n Willow is being fostered in Boulder. We're currently accepting applications and setting up Meet and Greets for Willow. If interested in this sweet girl who is so full of love and personality, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
