My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.

Gretchen is a lhasa apso/shih tzu mix who who is in rescue due to the death of her owner. Gretchen is 20 pounds, 8 years old and has the most beautiful soft, fluffy coat when she is freshly groomed. She also has a very cute underbite due to her breed mix. Gretchen would enjoy having some older folks to hang out with although she is okay with teenagers, we don't recommend small children. Gretchen does fine with dogs larger than she but not smaller ones--she wants to be their boss. She thinks it's fun to chase cats. Gretchen is dependably house trained. She can be crated but she has good indoor manners and she knows how to use a doggie door too. Gretchen is quiet, easy going but does enjoy some daily exercise. She would be okay home alone for a work day especially with a large dog and a doggie door which she knows how to use. Gretchen is in foster care with Happy Hound Rescue, a 501c3 non profit, all volunteer rescue Gretchen is in foster care with Happy Hound Rescue, a 501c3 non profit, all volunteer rescue. Her adoption fee is $150 plus sales tax as required by the state. She is spayed, had a full dental, is up to date on all shots, heartworm prevention and heartworm pills, frontline plus for fleas and ticks, worming and she has a microchip.
