My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello there to all you potential adopters! This is Kerrie’s foster mom, and I’d love to tell you about this tiny little sweetheart! She came from a breeder/puppy mill situation, and before Midwest BREW stepped in, she only knew life as a momma, living in a kennel inside a pole barn. It has been truly wondrous to see her start to explore her new surroundings, and experience what being a loved pet is like instead of being just a breeding machine.
Kerrie is still very shy, and frightens easily, but is eager to explore the world! She loves other dogs, and having a buddy in her new home is a must. She needs the security of another dog around, and a dog to show her the “rules of the house” and the way things work. She panics in a crate, or on a tie out, so someone with lots of patience, and a quiet gentle approach will be necessary to help her overcome her fears. Her first instinct is to run when she is afraid, so she cannot be off leash, and all the exits from the house must be guarded very closely. A fenced yard must be VERY secure, because she can squeeze through an opening only four inches wide!
She is madly in love with toys of all types. Every evening we put them all in the toy box, and every morning she drags them out one by one until the floor is covered with them. She loves to chew on them all- hard or soft, round or flat, so you do need to watch that she doesn’t tear off pieces and swallow them. She is silly and funny, and loves her breakfast and dinner times! In many ways she is like a puppy- everything is new to her, and she samples everything with her mouth! She is starting to learn that not EVERYTHING in the house is a chew toy! She makes us laugh all the time with her mad dashes around the house and her tiny little growl and Arooo!
We are still working on housetraining, but Kerrie is finally starting to get the hang of it. After all, she never had to worry about when and where she “went” before. She is getting used to a harness and a leash, although will try to chew on either one if she gets tangled up and annoyed with them. She rides great in the car, although it sometimes takes a little coaxing to get her in there. Because she is so timid, a quieter home without small children would be best
All in all, she is going to make a wonderful pet soon, but needs some help and encouragement along this new path in her life. Maybe she is just the girl that will make you say “Who rescued who?”
