My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Old Dan is a very special gentle giant with a long sad story...almost 2 months ago we saw a post looking for a rescue to commit to helping this dog who had been living in the wild for at least FIVE YEARS in Warwick NY...likely dumped by a hunter who didn't need him or a family who moved and left him behind, he scavenged for food and roamed the streets and woods, eluding capture and too scared to approach people. Finally the right person heard about him and made plans to trap him, but needed an experienced rescue to commit to rehabilitating him regardless of how scared or feral he may be once caught...so of course he sounded like a perfect Second Chance dog:) Linda Schroeder and many volunteers and local residents helped to track him, set and check the humane traps, but he continually managed to get the food out of the trap while keeping one foot out and not getting caught! Finally Tuesday evening, he went into a special larger kennel trap set by Buddha Dog Rescue and Recovery and was safe at last! Though panicked by being confined at first, he very quickly realized that people were there to help him and allowed them to pick off the dozens of ticks that covered his body, and followed them leaning in for attention! He is an amazing sweet social boy, good with other dogs and just wants to be loved. He is looking for a calmer adult home and someone who will make sure he never gets loose and has to fend for himself again! Please email an application if you are interested in giving this special boy the forever home he deserves.

We do not have a shelter- all our pets are in foster homes and can be seen by appointment only during the week, or at our weekly pet adoptions every Sunday at the Animal Clinic of Morris Plains from 12:30 to 3PM at 3009 Route 10 East next to 5 Star Car Wash (formerly Boulder Car Wash) in Morris Plains (Denville on GPS). To help us better match a pet to your household, we request you fill out an application on our homepage www.secondchance.petfinder.com and copy and paste it into an email, or print it and bring it to our adoption day when you come. Local inquiries only please- we do not do long distance adoptions.
