Kobe, a Shiba/Jack Russell, is tall for his age and because of that people think that he is older but in reality, Kobe just turned one! When first meeting Kobe he warms up quickly, becoming playful but can be a little mouthy. He plays rough with other dogs and loud noises do tend to scare him.

When his foster family describes his personality, we can tell that Kobe is a really fun and lovable puppy who is just looking for his forever home!

Puppy behavior always brings smiles to our faces but puppyhood is also the perfect time period to reinforce proper dog etiquette. Kobe is easily excitable and wags his tail to greet everyone, strangers and old friends alike. This is good. However, due to his overeagerness to greet others he will also pull and jump when he is near them. This is not good. His foster family is working with Kobe on teaching him that the word “off” means that he should not jump on people and his good behavior is reinforced with treats. Luckily, Kobe is treats motivated so training has not been too difficult. When Kobe first arrived in his foster home, he resisted going into his crate but now with some gentle nudging, he willingly allows himself to be crated. He is still not housebroken and loose leash walking are two other basic training items that our sweet foster puppy is learning.

When Kobe’s foster family comes through the front door after a long day, they can always be sure to receive a genuinely happy welcome home greeting from Kobe. He is a true little lover and is especially attached to his foster mom for providing consistent guidance during his time in her foster care. There will be moments when Kobe hears noises outside the home and will bark out of nervousness but once reassured, the energy becomes redirected to a playful mode where Kobe will grab a toy to play with. He gets along well with the resident Shiba.

About NYC Shiba Rescue, Inc.

About Our Rescue Group...

NYC Shiba Rescue (NYCSR) is an all volunteer group dedicated to contributing to the quality of life of Shiba Inu in and around the New York City metropolitan area. To that end, NYCSR actively works to rescue Shiba Inu and Shiba Inu mixed breed dogs from dangerous environments and shelters in order to find them loving, permanent homes. We will, among other things, foster and evaluate Shiba Inu in order to prepare them for adoption and seek out proper adoptive homes for the dogs. NYCSR also promotes responsible dog ownership by educating the public in the selection, care and training of dogs.

Please see our website for adoptable pets and the time and place of any events.

Our Adoption Process...

The first step in adopting a dog from NYCSR is completing an adoption application. We will contact potential adopters - usually by email - when we receive an application and we may have further questions. We conduct a home visit and check references for all potential adopters.

After an adopter is approved, we will work to match them with the perfect Shiba or Shiba mix. All adopters must sign an adoption contract and pay an adoption fee at the time of the adoption.
