My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Duke AKA Puppy - he does not respond to Duke is a 1.5-year-old retriever mix and gorgeous! He is a 62-pound retriever-chow mix and has not shown any aggression with people, even with strangers letting themselves into the house. He loves children and will willingly go up and give even toddlers puppy kisses. Before and shortly afterward he was neutered, he would occasionally show aggressive moves towards certain dogs. After about 2 weeks, this negative behavior seems to have disappeared, and now he is doing great at the dog parks and with the other dogs in his foster home. EXCEPT when put in close quarters at places like pet stores and dogs look him in the eyes - he gets a bit snarky. His foster parents used to have a purebred chow, and well know their traits. And Duke has been no different than other non-chow dogs we have had that exhibit that behavior. Duke is so much fun, very loving, and has shown that he is loyal. He absolutely loves to play with his foster siblings, particularly with Golden Bear, Bear. They do intensive play sessions together inside and out. Tug-of-war is a favorite between them. Unfortunately Bear drags out stuff like underwear to use for that sport. He imprinted so quickly to his foster parents. And on property walks he has stuck with us, returning on command. And even when he escaped out of a piece of broken fence while we were out, he returned to our front dog. Puppy has a luxurious coat of black shiny fur with air brushed colors of gold and red. And is one gorgeous pooch. He enjoys being bathed and brushed.\r\n\r\nPuppy says, I am a very good doggie citizen and I do not destroy anything. I can be left alone with free roam and will joyfully greet you when you return. I know how to use the double dog doors. And I won't run away, as life is too good here and the grub is great. Since I did not have a good start, I will need some help with training beyond doing a sit. I am eager to learn lots of stuff. \r\n\r\nHe is house trained, and he sleeps well through the night in our bedroom. He is not a barky pooch. And he seems to be quite smart, learning quickly and figuring things out on his own. But he can be stubborn. What does Puppy love? Lots of love, a can of tuna fish, cheese, dog parks, property walks, rolling in the snow, and loves to park his body in our small pond. Duke will do best with another playful dog in his forever home.
