My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Volund is a 3-4 year old German Shepherd mix impounded as a stray on the streets of Southern California. We aren't sure what he's been through, but when he arrived in his Seattle foster home, he was a very thin and frightened pup. He barely wanted to eat, and it took over a week for him to want to come out of his crate on his own. Slowly but surely, Volund has gained a lot of confidence and learned to build positive relationships with lots of different people. Now he is full of spunk, very happy around the people he knows (as well as tolerable of people he doesn't), and ready to find a home of his own! He as also put on some much needed weight and has one very traumatizing (but necessary) first day bathtub experience to tell you about.

Overall, Volund is a very laid back dog. He is happy to lay at your feet on the front porch all day long if you let him, or go for leisurely walks through the neighborhood, or visit the local coffee shop for a treat. He wants nothing more than to hang out with his people and enjoy the sunshine. That said, he's still a young dog and he really needs someone with a fenced yard for him to run around in. While Volund adjusts well to the dogs he knows, he is defensive of his "pack" around new dogs, and probably won't be a good candidate for the dog park. For this reason it would be ideal for him to live in a home with another dog to keep him company (given an appropriate introduction) and a fenced yard so he doesn't have to get all of his exercise on leash.

Volund is very well potty trained (given a reasonable adjustment period and schedule in a new home), and doesn't pull on the leash. He does need some work on going for a "walk" (he's not so sure it should be such a linear voyage), but he also won't pull you over. He just likes to weave back and forth a little bit, which can easily be worked on. He knows to go into his crate, sit and wait for meals, people go through doorways first, etc. but these are all things that will need to continue to be worked on in his new home. Obedience classes would be extremely beneficial for this guy! The happier he gets, the more and more fun he is to work with and train, which is so important to ensure a successful adoption. Someone with a little patience and love is going to have a lot of fun with this handsome and amazing dog!
Vollund is neutered, microchipped, Heartworm Negative and up to date on vaccines.
His adoption fee is $300. Please email rescuinganimals@gmail.com for more information. If you would like to apply to adopt Volund please fill out our online application at www.raincityrescue.com and click the adopt tab to submit.
