My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When we are asked about a special rescue pup that is snuggly and sweet, we can't help but think of Chico. His smile is shining...and maybe just a bit mischievous. Chico's foster mom knows it's morning when Chico's little head comes under the blanket...getting closer and closer..and then a huge kiss of love. This very loving and really, really smart 6 - 7 year old (such a perfect age..old enough to have left puppyish behavior behind but young enough to have many, many active years ahead - Schnoodles live to a very ripe old age) 10 - 12 lb Schnauzer/Poodle mix is a truly great companion as well as a lap dog extraordinaire. There aren't many visible signs (other than his initial shyness) that Chico was in a very scary high-kill shelter about to face euthanasia. He can hang back or be a touch uncertain in some situations..but a warm hug and reassuring words..and Chico bounces back and cuddles just a bit closer.
We picture Chico as the best friend to retirees. He'd be so loyal.. and overjoyed to share his love and good will. There's also no question that Chico would be the most popular guy on the block. Once comfortable, he loves to engage and just be his entertaining, adorable self. Even though Chico is usually up for pretty much any activity, he's never pushy or yappy. Exercise..perhaps a walk in the sunshine to socialize with neighbors, and mental stimulation that comes from his time with his humans.. is important to this guy to keep him happy and feeling a part of the family. It's not that he requires extensive amounts, just enough to keep him healthy and stimulated. Chico is such an easy guy to bring along. You can just scoop him up and he'll lie happily in your arms. Or grab a backpack and Chico will snuggle down for a long hike with a great view from above. Chico derives so much joy from his relationships, we would love to see him in a family that often stays at home..or chooses to bring along a sweet and kind fuzzy family member. Chico would shine in an office setting or in pretty much any situation where a sweet pup is accepted. Chico is a great dog who deserves this love and consistency in his life.
Chico's Georgia foster had the following to say about lovebug Chico:

Sweet and kind Chico would be perfect for a retired couple or individual. He is just a touch shy at first but once I sat quietly with him, spoke gently about how much I loved him and gave him belly rubs..he couldn't stop wagging his tail...it reminded me of a helicopter! All Chico needs to make him happy is to sit or lie by my side (or on my lap) and follow me as I wander around the house (although, he does get tired of my wanderings and will lie down quietly in an available dog bed or couch). Chico walks on a leash like a champ (perfect for an older individual) and likes to potty outside. Chico sleeps on his bed (or my bed occasionally) in my room all night with no problems whatsoever. He's very careful to be quiet and never snores! Chico is such a sweet and kind boy! He just needs some love and attention. When he understands that he's well-loved and respected, his self-esteem will skyrocket and there won't be a better companion in the world!

This adorable and very loyal Schnoodle is a non-shedding guy. He has the softest and most beautiful silver coat ever...It's so calming to sit with Chico and just leisurely stroke him. Sometimes it seems like he's purring..so sweet. Chico will require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his stunning hair cottony-soft and matt-free.

Chico will arrive on transport in Boulder in early June.
