Dolly - ShihTzu mix - young (4-5 years) - female/ spayed - cream and buff long coat - 11 pounds
This little mite is Dolly, and she is a wonderfully dear and gentle dog. Dolly and her older friend, Waddles, were recovered from an abandoned home by Animal Control, and entered foster care with great joy and relief.
Dolly is outgoing, alert and extremely responsive. She has beautiful brown eyes, and an open, and engaged expression. She offers full and direct eye contact.
We do not know Dolly’s breed components. Due to severe matting at the time of her recovery by Animal Control, her coat had to be shaved down, which has given us an opportunity to see her conformation, and we are guessing that she is a ShihTzu mixed with another small breed that is leggier and more refined. Dolly has a beautiful, trim, and athletic little body, and she moves deftly and nimbly.
Since coming into foster care, Dolly has demonstrated a great spirit of cooperation. She is extremely tactile and loves to be cuddled, petted and held. Introduction of her small harness and a leash posed no concern for her whatsoever, so we presume that at one time Dolly enjoyed much attention and handling. She evidences both a trusting nature, and an innocent expectation of only good, and we have been touched by her faith in us, given all the upheaval in her life.
Dolly is house trained, and communicative regarding her need to go out; otherwise she is quiet and calm, but always ready and hopeful for interaction. Dolly travels in the car with complete assurance and calmness, and she welcomes small excursions, as well as walks. We have admired her stable, comfortable attitude about encountering new places and experiences, and her loving and accepting disposition.
Dolly has met every new individual, as well as her foster family’s own dogs and cats, with ease and assurance, and again, we have admired her composure, and her reasonable nature. She loves to caper about her fenced yard, and to roll and wriggle vigorously in the fresh grass.
A champion smuggler, Dolly is able to leap onto a lap with grace and precision. She is a bit worried by thunder and lightning storms, but is completely reassured if she is close physical proximity to a human; she is worry-free if she is in a lap.
Dolly is in excellent health, and has been spayed since coming into foster care, as well as tested for HW/L/E, and has been fully vaccinated. She is a good eater.
Dolly appears to be a dog who once knew love and security, and who has maintained a resolute spirit that she will find those qualities again. She will bring affection, devotion, and wonderful companionship to her adoptive home.
Because of her small size, we would like to see Dolly go to an adult home, or to a family with gentle, dog-experienced children.
