Would you like to add a well behaved little boy to your family? One who is house trained, affectionate, and willing to listen and learn? If you answered YES, then Luke is the Shih Tzu for you!
Luke is 8 years old, and about 17 pounds. His coloring is called liver and white, and his luxurious coat has a little wave to it. His summer haircut is rather short right now because he had lots of mats that had to be cut off. Luke has never learned to play with toys, but has enjoyed the “game” of jumping and running after squishy balls we throw down the hallways. He will, however, soon learn how to play as he watches other dogs playing. He does want to play with other dogs and he is often posturing and play bowing, trying to get his “old lady” foster sister to play! We would like him to find a forever home with another playful dog if possible so he can enjoy this side of doggie life too.
Luke is very smart and picks up challenges very quickly. After one day he learned which driveway was his and now he will find his doorstep every time. He knows exactly which neighbor might have a treat for him and he runs up and sits politely staring into her face. After his foster mom said “let’s go outside potty” only one time, he learned that it means to run to the door, sit, wait to be let out, and then go potty immediately. Finally between 9:30 and 10 pm “let’s go to bed” means run in and sit next to the big bed so he can jump up and go to sleep!
Luke also caught on quickly that walks and dog parks can be fun. Having another little dog in the house to encourage him has made it easier, and after a few initial tugs he trots along to meet the neighbors and their dogs….and garner a few treats. Even though Luke enjoys his walks, he is also a home body. So as soon as you turn for home, hold on, because he is so excited he could run all the way as fast as you’d let him! Luke is a charming, delightful guy that the right family will love for many more years. Please apply today!
Luke is healthy, neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, just had a dental, is microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $220.00 plus $16.01 sales tax, for a total of $236.01. His foster home will adopt Luke to a family that lives within one hour of the Twin Cities. She also would like his new family to attend our STRMN Rescue Reunion the third Saturday in June every year.
