Jolene's Story...
Please meet Jolene.

We were at the shelter one day when an employee approached us and said, "I need your help with a puppy." She took us to Jolene's kennel and said, "She's scared and they won't move her to the adoption floor." Our heart broke when we saw her cowering in the corner, shaking....really wishing to disappear. (see pic). She allowed us to pick her up and, even though she was scared, we think she knew we were there to help, and so for a minute she relaxed and laid her sweet head down on my shoulder.

Her's is a story that plays out time and time again - she was going to sit in hold until her time was up, and then she would be euthanized. She wasn't going to even get a chance at a life, and why? Because she was scared.

We happen to think that scared shows some sense. She should have been scared. A lone puppy in a big kennel, in a loud and unfamiliar place - that's just about as scary as it can get for a dog. If you were in prison, would you sit at your door with a smile on your face, or would you be scared? Time and time again we've seen the most scared dogs in the shelter become the most amazing family members. They are the ones tuned in - the ones who love their families whole heartedly. With a little love, scared quickly fades and the sweetness dogs like Jolene possess comes shining through.

Jolene is now in a loving foster home with other dogs to pal around with, a family who loves her, kids and even a grumpy cat who occasionally harasses her. She is loving every bit of it. She is housetrained and even knows a few basic commands. Jolene has enjoyed the rainy weather and loves the simple joy of splashing in a puddle - what a happy and joyful puppy!! We are so grateful to the shelter employee for pointing her out and we are so proud to have her in our rescue family.

Her adoption fee is $425 and includes her spay surgery, microchip, vaccinations, health certificate and transportation from Memphis to your area. Please email to receive an adoption application. Help us write Jolene's happily ever after story.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Jolene, a Chicago Labrador Retriever/English Pointer puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Labrador Retriever/English Pointer for sale in Chicago, or seeking a Labrador Retriever/English Pointer puppy from a breeder in Chicago.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Chicago already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Chicago breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever/English Pointer breeders who help with Labrador Retriever/English Pointer rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Chicago paves the way for another one to be saved.
