My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Buddy’s adoption fee is $350.

Buddy is a 4 year old Shih Tzu, weighing approximately12 pounds. He’s neutered, up to date with vaccines and micro chipped. Buddy came to us very frightened and not housetrained. He had been living in an apartment, but he is much better suited to a home with easy access to a fenced yard. Buddy is relatively quiet in the house; the odd barking when excited outside by passersby and other dogs walking. He is very loving, but it has taken about a month for him to relax and know he is safe. He is getting along with the other dogs well, and seems to prefer the company of female dogs. He’s just starting to know how to play and can get quite silly with them. He does bark at someone new when they arrive at the house, but soon settles when he realizes he is safe.

He is not fond of being brushed and growls a little - a professional groomer would handle him best, and he may need a muzzle in the beginning. He eats well, and has done wonderfully with his house training. He should be in a home where someone is home most of the time so he can get outside often. He has started to scratch at the door when he needs to go out; you will have to learn his cues, such as pacing and walking around until you ask him if he needs to go outside. He has been sleeping in his foster mom’s bed now for a few weeks and has had no accidents during the night

Buddy needs an experienced owner who will help him progress with his fears and learn to trust his humans. He is a little toy possessive; we have been working on this and he is doing much better. Buddy loves to snuggle on your lap and he just folds into your shoulder for hugs. Buddy would do best in a calm home, without small children. In a calm understanding home, Buddy will reward you with many years of love and affection.
