My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This poor boy has had a rough life so far and is still in need. He was found tied to the porch of a Lions Club, outside a small MO town. No one knows how long he had been there or why. Leo was taken in by a kind rescuer and a rescue group was found for him. He was soon completely vetted and on his way. His tail had an old injury and had to be removed prior to going. Once at the rescue shelter, he was evaluated and it was found that he guards his food. This is not something they can deal with in the shelter and they have few fosters, so the have declined taking him into their program. Leo needs to find a foster based rescue as soon as possible. Initially he was found very thin and it is very possible the shelter environment is producing a behavior that might not otherwise be a problem, or could at least be worked with. He spent several weeks with a foster prior to leaving for this shelter and showed no signs of food aggression what so ever. Even when he had the cone on after his tail surgery, and was guided to the food bowl, there was no problem.
The rescue evaluation for him was good in every other way. His dog to dog testing was good. He is good with handling and vetting. His food bowl is actually worse than the resource (pig ear/raw hide). He is kind of an odd duck because he makes similar vocalizations over his resources, that he does when he wants attention/is playing. He is young and playful… a good boy, with lots of energy! He just needs another chance to find his perfect forever… and a little patience and training to overcome any food issues, that have likely come from being left hungry for a very long time, and possibly feeling insecure about his food in the shelter. Leo is 45lbs, a Walker Coonhound.
