Senior ShihTzu / Poodle mix
Birthday ~3/6/2005
8.6 lbs

Ajax is 11 yrs old and was rescued from the local shelter when he was turned in when his previous owners did not want to address his medical needs as a senior pet. Ajax has age-related vision loss, but can make his way around his foster home effectively.

Ajax is good with the dogs and cats in his foster home. He is affectionate and is a great lap dog. He would be a good fit for a retired person or someone who works from home. Due to his age, we recommend only older children (>10 yrs) for Ajax.

Ajax is vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. He has tested negative for heartworms and is current on heartworm preventative and flea preventative.

**Please note that like all pups of similar breed, Ajax has a high grooming requirement. He will need to be groomed every 6-8 weeks, which requires more than just cutting his hair back, so a grooming reference is required. We ask that you factor the cost of grooming into your pet care budget.

If you are interested in Ajax, please fill out a  Dog Adoption Application

Our adoptions include a foster period of 4-6 weeks so that you can be sure that this pet is a good fit without any pressure, and we are available to answer any behavior or training questions during that time (and beyond, if you wish).

**Local adoptions preferred (within 1-2 hrs of the Greater New Orleans area). We do not ship animals, as a part of our adoption process is for the potential adopter(s) to meet the dog to assess if he/she is a match for the family.

About Pet Adoption Services, Inc

About Our Rescue Group...

Pet Adoption Services, Inc. is a non-profit all breed cat and dog rescue organization in New Orleans. Supported by over 20 volunteer members, Pet Adoption Services was founded in 1996, although some of our members have been involved in rescue for over 20 years. Our mission is to secure loving permanent homes for homeless, abandoned or abused cats and dogs of all breeds. While awaiting adoption, our animals live in the homes of one of our foster parents. During this time the animals receive any necessary veterinary care, including but not limited to, vaccinations, spaying or neutering and heartworm treatment. Our experienced foster parents continually assess each pet's personality and temperament allowing us to place adoptable cats and dogs in just the right permanent home. Pet Adoption Services participates in adoption days during which time, potential adopters get the opportunity to meet and spend time with the animals in a "real life" situation.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Because each of our rescues lives in the home of one of our fosterparents, arrangements will be made for the adopter to meet the pet in which they are interested. Also, PAS holds a monthly adoption day at the Petsmart on Veterans Blvd in Metairie.

Our Adoption Process...

The average adoption fee for dogs is $150, though some adoption fees may be occasionally lower or a bit higher. All animals offered for adoption are spayed or neutered, heartworm negative or undergoing treatment, up to date on vaccinations, treated for intestinal parasites, and microchipped. In addition to completing an adoption contract, potential adopters should be prepared to agree to a veterinarian reference check and home visit. A valid drivers license or state I.D. card is required. This simple yet thorough screening process allows us to place the right animal in your committed, loving home.
