Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Tessie is a beautiful 2 1/2 year old brindle with white girl, who had only 1 race to her name and decided it wasn't for her. She is littermate to Bella.
Her small dog status is unknown and she is not cat tolerant.
Hello! I'm Tessie, the new kid on the block. Mary named me as part of the Mother's Day fundraiser. She picked the name Tessie before she knew I was the hound who needed a name. Turns out that's my doggie grandma's name. Sounds like fate to me!
My sister, Bella, came to SA GREYS the same day I did. It's a good thing I'm with her. She's the brave, confident one and I kinda look up to her. We live in crates right next to each other and we get to run around in the yard together. I'm hoping we get to live together in our foster and forever homes. Even if we don't, I promise to be brave and do everything I can to be a good doggie.
FOSTER UPDATE:
Tessie is doing great. We left the kennel open last night and let her choose where to sleep. Of course, Sundance was in the middle of our bed so Tessie took his bed on the floor (we're trying hard to be good foster parents and not encourage her to get on the furniture. We're not preventing it, just not encouraging it - haha).
Tessie was up about 4:15am, I heard her make a couple of laps around the bedroom and then laid back down until we got up about 6:30am. She went out, did her business and we went on about our day.
She's learning about the stuffed animals and has begun playing. She tosses the stuffies and catches them by herself. She's started taking treats, but only if placed in the food bowl or on the ground.
We took a short walk this evening with both dogs. We exposed her to small dogs, large dogs, people and rabbits. The small dogs were of interest, the rabbits elicited a strong lunging behavior (high prey drive?) and the large dog was of no interest.
I wouldn't call her dominant, but she's not shy about butting into the food or water bowl. Both greyhounds eat/drink out of the same bowls and there's been no issues with aggression. However, I have heard a couple of growls and a bark when a stuffed animal was involved.
I've noticed that when I get home from work, she's begun "mouthing" my hand for attention and I have a shadow for a while until she assumes her regular position on one of the dog beds. Tessie's tail starts wagging when you look at her and doesn't stop until you quit petting her.
