My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Spirit: 10-year-old female black Lab 55 lbs

Imagine spending most of your life in a crate or kennel. Imagine spending most of your adult life being used to breed and produce puppies. Imagine the day a wonderful couple from Livermore came across you at that breeder and literally spirited you out of that situation and onto a cattle ranch where the only fences were to keep the steers and cows in their pastures. Imagine a new future full of wonderful possibilities.

Well, the majestic cattle ranch is too wide open for Spirit as she doesn’t know how to handle the lack of confinement and the open space. Her good Samaritan rancher-rescuers hope GGLRR can find Spirit a new forever home that is a safe and secure (i.e., fenced) home with plenty of room for her to be a dog. Spirit has a remarkably good attitude and behavior despite her lengthy confinement at the breeder. She loves to run and play and retrieve. Spirit know basic commands such as sit, down, drop, come – and, of course, fetch. She will need patience and guidance when being walked on a leash, as she has little experience doing so. She gets along great with other dogs (but needs to be fed separately) and does fine with cats. We do not think she has had much, if any, exposure to children.

What her current caretakers say: Spirit is sweet and gentle with all our pets and is very respectful of our livestock. She loves to fetch and be around people. She has never shown any hesitation to meet-and-greet anyone. This is one fabulous dog that deserves caring and dedicated humans that can provide Spirit with a home in which she can thrive – and make up for lost time.

What Spirit’s Rescue Rep says: Spirit is current on vaccinations, and will be spayed and microchipped in the near future. She is located in Livermore.

If you are interested in Spirit, call Rescue Rep Dave 415-686-4248.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
