My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET NACHO -

IGNACIO (Nacho) is a male, smooth Blue and White Double Dapple, approx. 16lbs, 3.5 years old. He has microopthalmia (mini, underdeveloped eyes) which causes him to have limited vision (he can only see shadows). Even though he really can't see, you'd never know it by his personality and playing. Nacho is extremely kid friendly and loves to please. Though he hasn't had formal obedience training, he knows and responds well to the following commands: 'house, off, out (of the kitchen), kennel, bed, outside, potty, no, enough.' He is also house trained, leash trained and car trained. He's really looking for a loving, forever home...

IGNACIO is a very reserved dog who is cautious around new/unknown settings. He loves to greet people with a little dance and loves rubs in return. He enjoys snuggling, playing outdoors, laying in front of a fire, playing tug of war with stuffingless toys, nesting with all stuffingless toys in the house (and harvesting their squeakers), burrowing, and playing. He especially loves stuffing (hence stuffingless toys)....leaving him unattended with a fluffy dog bed is not advised; however he would have a hay day!

IGNACIO's family's circumstances have changed and no longer live where they can have pets so they have surrendered him to Oregon Dachshund Rescue to help him find a loving, forever family. IGNACIO will do best as the only pet in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds.

Like all Dachshunds, IGNACIO is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, IGNACIO needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give IGNACIO a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
