Here's what the humans have to say about me:
The sweetest dog this side of the Mississippi, Mittens was adopted as a puppy by a U.S. Navy veteran who took very good care of her and his other dogs. She had a happy life in Missouri until her owner had a stroke and could no longer take care of her and siblings. She has now crossed the river and landed in Chicago where she is loved by her foster family and is waiting to find her new forever home.
Mittens will be your best friend and will follow you around the house looking for a belly rub, a neck scratch, or a head massage. She will also give you some space by curling up on the couch and taking a nice long nap. She loves to go out for walks and often goes back to the door hoping for another walk right after you've returned to your home! She has no interest in being outside in a yard by herself. She wants to be where her humans are and is quite content to hang out inside the house.
At 7 years old, Mittens is 100% house trained and has learned the commands sit, down, and roll in just a few weeks. She does well in her crate and is great with other dogs, cats, and kids. She is learning to walk nicely on a leash, though sometimes tends to pull (especially when she sees another dog or a bunny!), so she'll need an owner who will continue her leash training. Luckily, she's a nice manageable size at about 18.5 pounds. Note that she is capable of climbing a chain link fence, so it’s best to have her on leash in the yard if you have that type of fence.
This is your chance to honor a man who served our country and would want only the best for the dogs he sadly had to give up. Mittens came with complete vet records (pardon the pun) so we know she was well-cared for her entire life. Her breed is noted as Brittany Spaniel mix. If you are looking for a mature, sociable, easy-going dog to take on walks and keep you company, come meet Mittens!
Mittens’ adoption fee of $225 includes initial vet exam, distemper combo vaccination, bordetella vaccination, rabies vaccination, flea/tick preventative, deworming, heartworm test, heartworm preventative, dental cleaning and extractions, microchip, and spay. Veterans or currently enlisted – show us your ID and as our way of thanking and honoring YOU, we’ll cut her adoption fee in half.
