OK - we are not even sure how to start Tadpole's story because it is not a good one. She was part of a small back yard of squallor due to dogs not being altered and then her back yard of squalor turned into a back yard of horrors when her owner died. Family members continued to feed this herd but usually by throwing food over the fence. In an effort to stop the rampant multiplying, we took the females from the yard and holy cow, what sad dogs they are - especially Tadpole. We suspect this little girl got beaten up by the rest of the pack and she is extremly timid with people and other dogs terrify her. But, she is learning that with people come wonderful things like peanut butter and she has also meet some terribly sweet doggy friends who are helping her come out of her shell. She has a tendency to bury her head in her bed as if to say "If they can't see my face, they can't see me" but she has made wonderful progress in a short amount of time. Tadpole needs a special family who will give her time to adjust, does not have any small children and has a sweet, mellow and dog-friendly existing dog. Tadpole is one of those dogs who will need a special person but we know that person is out there for this sweet little girl who has had a hard life!

About Carroll County Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

The Carroll County Humane Society is a NO-KILL Animal Shelter in McKenzie, West Tennessee. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with funding coming entirely from private contributions, fundraising and grants. We care for approximately 250 animals at one time in a building we've purchased and in foster homes. Our goal is to utilize Adoption and Spay/Neuter as our community's animal population control - not euthanasia. We hope to insure that all companion animals have a warm, safe, loving home and to assist and educate the public about proper pet care. We also give shelter to abused animals while assisting law enforcement to prosecute their abusers.
