Hi, I'm Petey (formerly ET), a Flat Coat Retriever mix boy being fostered in MEMPHIS, TN.
I was found wandering in Haywood County TN.  I was very thin, had only a few scattered hairs due to severe mange and skin infections and was heartworm positive.  People were very nasty to me when I looked funny, so I'm still anxious in new situations.  I got my name 'ET' cuz I didn't even look like a dog (and Foster Mommy is silly)...if you don't believe me, look at my 'Before Pictures.'  I'm still growing my hair back, but my coat keeps getting nicer!

I have gotten the treatment I needed and am much better now.  I'm a playful, happy, silly boy, though I'm shy at first meeting.  I will attempt to play with anyone and anything.  I love my big, soft bed, and my 'babies'(toys). I am very gentle, and never tear up my toys, I just like carrying them around. I am fully house friendly and have an adorable goofball personality once I feel secure.

I have been around older children (7 & 9) and did very well!  I also have no reaction to cats. I like other dogs, although I can play a bit rough with other dogs, but will listen when told to stop.  I also have to be fed separately from other dogs, because I was starved, but I am not food aggressive with humans.

I'm good on leash and love car rides!  I would enjoy life with a loving person or family who will play with me and throw toys for me.

Would you like a silly boy to bring joy into your life?

About From the Heart Rescue - Memphis

About Our Rescue Group...

FROM THE HEART RESCUE, a no-kill, life-enhancing rescue dedicated to caring for those no one else will.

Founded in January 2004, From the Heart Rescue (FTH) is dedicated to caring for hurt and frightened victims of accident, disease, cruelty and neglect, by providing the life-saving surgeries, medications and special care that other organizations are unable or unwilling to give.

With unbounded love and an intense dedication to those unwanted by others, FTH works hard to give chances to dogs which other rescues and humane societies do not. Dogs are given individual attention in a loving foster home while recovering physically or emotionally from their previous lives. Our volunteers then work diligently to find a loving, thoroughly screened forever home, where they will get the second chance they deserve, enhacing both their lives and those of their new humans.

We hope you will take a moment to explore our site and learn about our work. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us at

Our Adoption Process...

The first step in our adoption process is to fill out our on-line application by clicking on the link on the left or here: "Forms/Applications." You can fill it out right from your computer screen and it will automatically be e-mailed to our Adoption Coordinator.

After we receive your application, we will process it. We do check references and will talk to your vet, so this may take some time. We are very concerned about placing our dogs in good, loving homes. Our goal is 100% successful placements, with no returns, so we try very hard to get to know the adoptive families, both through our application form and through personal visits. We also will make a home visit to inspect the home and yard to ensure the safety of the pet, and to meet your family. The purpose of all this is to match the right dog with the right family, and ensure a good, permanent placement. If there are any issues with the house or yard that we feel need to be addressed prior to placement, we will let you know what they are, give you some time to resolve them, and then do a re-inspection.

Our adoption fee for most animals is $100 (seniors may be reduced to $50) which includes their spay/neuter, microchip implantation and microchip registration, all age-appropriate vaccinations, heartworm/erlichia/lyme disease testing, all prior medical treatment, collar, leash, ID tags and a "Go Home" bag full of goodies!

We want this to work out well for both you and the dog and, because of that, we may seem to take all this a bit too seriously. Sometimes we will not approve a particular placement. This usually has to do with the animal and its specific needs; it is not a reflection on you or your family. Some dogs and families are just not good fits and, if we feel this is this case, we will tell you.

The bottom line is we want to find good homes for all our dogs and cats, and to see tht they never end up looking for a home again. We have a lot of time, money and love invested in every one of our animals and we take their happiness seriously.
