Monty's Story...
I'm pleased to introduce a very playful and super affectionate rat terrier named Monty about 1 to 1.5 years old. He was found roaming the back streets of San Bernardino Ca. and got pick up and thrown in the animal slammer. Then when no one came forward to claim or adopt him he was moved to death row lane. Now being the spry, intelligent, super cute little gent that he is, the local jail breaker for Underdog Railroad couldn't let him get passed up so he was sprung. He's a doll and doesn't bark hardly at all (in fact rarely), won't chase the cats (unless they run-because he thinks that means it's play time) but really seems to get along with them and if a brazen puss decides to pop him one on the rump he just moves away from the offending feline in a hurry. He's fantastic with kids and other dogs. In fact I think he'd love a canine playmate big time (of which his foster doesn't have). He's a super snuggler…a true lap dog. He's got the potty basics down but he's still adjusting to our rainy climate (he has a new smashing red rain coat that he looks quite dapper in) so he's had a couple accidents plus he's not big on going while leashed, he'd prefer a bit-o-privacy if you catch our drift and being that his foster doesn't have a fenced yard for him to leisurely take a potty stroll it's meant some long walks...so a securely fenced yard area will be a necessary piece of the equation. He has so much enthusiasm when you come home from work he practically jumps into your arms for love and kisses with loads of tail wagging. He truly is a people dog, everywhere he goes a walking he wags his tail in enthusiastic greeting while standing on his hind legs in a kind of double high five greeting.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Monty, a Portland Rat Terrier dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Rat Terrier for sale in Portland, or seeking a Rat Terrier dog from a breeder in Portland.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Portland already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Portland breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Rat Terrier breeders who help with Rat Terrier rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Portland paves the way for another one to be saved.
