My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lilly is a 6 month old red shiba inu/jindo mix. Lilly and Jazz were raised for slaughter at a S. Korean dog meat farm, and had never experienced human contact or dog socialization. They were rescued by Humane Society international and brought to Animal Welfare League of Alexandria shelter. When the staff saw they needed a home environment to make any more progress, they contacted DC SIR. See their journey with other meat farm dogs here: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2015/01/150106-south-korea-dog-meat-farm-rescue-video-culture/

When we first got Lilly and Jazz we were unable to touch or handle them at all. We have made quite a bit of progress and you can see they are trusting humans and enjoying the spoils of DC SIR living! Lilly and Jazz are up for adoption as a bonded pair with the following stipulations:
1. Adopted together as bonded pair
2. Must have fenced backyard (still unable to get them into harness so walking on leash is not an option at this point– this can take months or years).
3. Required online fearful dog training class with Train Your Best Friend, LLC Jeni Grant
4. May or may not have other friendly dogs in home – friendly dogs preferred
5. Considering adopters outside our typical adoption area because we are looking for exceptional adopters

Lilly is glued to Jazz’s side and is more likely to observe Jazz in a new situation before trying or exploring. Lilly will come up to guests (male and female) who have treats! Lilly has excellent recall but is more dependent on following Jazz. Lilly has never had an accident in the home and is completely house trained. Lilly is more shy of being touched and body handling but is more receptive to cuddles and pets when the person is lying down (in bed or on a couch). We are working on touch from a sitting position and she is making progress! Lilly plays with all the dogs that come in and out of Shiba HQ. She can be a bit possessive about her delicious treats with some new puppies but she shares everything with Jazz and only barks warning to back off. Lilly can bark at strangers who come to the house, but quiets down when she sees they won’t hurt her or her friends.
