Gypsy's Story...
Gypsy is NOTORIOUS! Ever since she came into rescue, folks are saying 'oh, I know her - I saw her crossing the highway; ...trotting down Main Street; ...getting handouts behind the Bowling Alley'...for 6 months! This is an incredibly smart girl, and you will have to earn her trust before you will ever see those kohl-ringed eyes regard you as 'worthy.' She is an exceptional Pyr, atypical in some ways. She is estimated to be about 2 yrs old, and is a VERY high energy girl. We do not consider her 100% cat-safe, although she has shown perfect cat manners INSIDE. Outside, a surprising prey drive kicks in, and no cat is safe, so she has lost offleash house privileges. She has shown some cage/pen aggression, towards other dogs and strangers, but once outside a pen, she plays very well with other dogs, and responds positively with people. Gypsy does need some more work on leash walking (she's a bigtime 'puller'), but she's made huge progress from our first walks, when she would try to dodge into the woods at every chance and run away. Now she willingly goes to her 'house' after walks and exercise time, and knows all the turns to bring her back 'home' from our outside walks. She remains very leary of loud noises, and is very enthusiastic about guarding her fence perimeter (translation: she's got a BIG scary bark, and is VERY fast! Nobody in their right mind would consider coming inside her fence!) This is not a dog for an inexperienced Pyr owner. With firm calmness, she's responding beautifully and beginning to really blossom. She's a tremendous dog, and with the right owner, she has no limits on meeting training or problem solving challenges. She will wait as long as it takes for that perfect family. Could it be you? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gypsy is approximately 2 yrs old. She is spayed, microchipped, current on vax and on heartworm prevention. She was seen by many people roaming around 3 close-knit small towns in Rutherford Co, NC. One day, she decided she needed a rest and came to a gentle lady's porch where she decided it was safe for her and so she would return every few days. That's where our LARGE breed foster mom came into Gypsy's life. A true Pyr person, Sharon would leave her name and tele # with people whom she & her own Pyr, Delta Mae, would met on their daily walks each day, who had seen Gypsy over the 7 months she was 'on the streets', during late winter of 08>09. When the kind lady who had lent Gypsy her porch and handouts contacted Sharon, they were both relieved to have found one another to be able to give Gypsy a safe haven, and get her off the streets. Upon arrival at Sharon's 'big dog sanctuary', Gypsy was untrusting and ready to escape any way she could. However, since that time, Sharon and Gypsy have come to an understanding and Gypsy has seen the realities of wandering alone and what dangers comes with it. She has learned to trust and feels secure in her new adventure in life. She has Delta as a fine example of proper ediquette and decorum, and Romeo is her playmate....he's a little younger and more agile than Delta(a rescue found wandering in rural KY). Gypsy's adoption fee is $150. Why Adoption is a Great Option

Gypsy, a South Burlington Great Pyrenees dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Great Pyrenees for sale in South Burlington, or seeking a Great Pyrenees dog from a breeder in South Burlington.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in South Burlington already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a South Burlington breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Great Pyrenees breeders who help with Great Pyrenees rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in South Burlington paves the way for another one to be saved.
