My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When we are asked about a special rescue pup that is snuggly, sweet and very fun-loving, we can't help but think of Mickey. His smile is shining...and maybe just a bit mischievous. This curious and really, really smart 6.5 lb lap-guy is 7 or so years old (this is such a great age for a Pom - young enough to have many, many active years ahead as they live to a ripe old age and old enough to have gathered the wisdom to be an amazing companion). Mickey is a truly great companion as well as a lap dog extraordinaire. There aren't many visible signs (other than his initial shyness upon meeting new people) that Mickey was in a very scary high-kill shelter just about to face euthanasia. He can hang back or be a touch afraid in certain situations..but a warm hug and reassuring words..and Mickey bounces back and cuddles just a bit closer.
We picture Mickey as the best friend to retirees. He'd be so loyal.. and overjoyed to share his love and good will. There's also no question that Mickey would be the most popular guy on the block. Once comfortable, he loves to engage and just be his entertaining, adorable self. Even though Mickey is usually up for pretty much any activity, he's never pushy or yappy. Exercise..perhaps a walk in the sunshine, and mental stimulation that comes from his time with his humans.. is important to this guy to keep him happy and well-behaved. Mickey is such an easy guy to bring along anywhere. You can just scoop him up and he'll lie happily in your arms. Or grab a doggie backpack and Mickey will snuggle down for a long hike with a great view from above. Mickey derives so much joy from his relationships, we would love to see him in a family that often stays at home..or chooses to bring along a sweet and kind fuzzy family member. Mickey would shine in an office setting or in pretty much any situation where a sweet pup is accepted. He is a great dog who deserves this love and consistency in his life.
Mickey's Texas foster mom had the following to say about lovebug Mickey:

Sweet and kind Mickey would be perfect for a retired couple or individual. He is a little timid at first but once I sat quietly with him, spoke gently about how much I loved him and gave him tons of belly rubs..he couldn't stop wagging his tail...it reminded me of a helicopter! All Mickey wants to make him happy is to sit or lie by my side (or on my lap) and follow me as I wander around the house (although, he does get tired of my wanderings and will lie down quietly in an available dog bed or couch). Mickey walks on a leash like a champ (perfect for an older individual) and likes to potty outside. He's so respectful of my home and me that he would never consider being destructive in any way. Aaron sleeps on his bed (or my bed occasionally) in my room all night with no problems whatsoever. He's very careful to be quiet and never snores!
Mickey is such a sweet and kind boy! He just needs some love and attention. When he understands that he's well-loved and respected, his self-esteem will skyrocket and there won't be a better companion in the world!

This adorable and very, very loyal Pomeranian (we don't see any other breeds in this beautiful Pom but it is possible he's a mix) is a lightly shedding guy. With consistent grooming and great nutrition to keep his stunning hair cottony-soft and matt-free, Mickey will shed less and less.

Mickey will arrive on transport in Boulder on 6/26/15.
