My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Dex and I'm a happy-go-lucky kind of guy. My foster mom thinks I'm a mix of border collie, husky and labrador retriever. I'm medium energy and not destructive. I do like to chew occasionally, but on my toys/not on your furniture. I'm tall, thin and lanky (kinda like the GQ male model types, yeah that's me). I LOVE people. I love to play with other dogs too. I play a lot with Martha here in foster care and she's a rough and tumble kind of gal, so I'd love to find a home with another playful dog like that. It's a wish, not a requirement. I'm about 2-1/2 years old and weigh about 65 lbs, but like I said I'm thin and on the tall side. I'm housebroken and crate trained and I like to go into my crate to sleep at night or if I just need some time out away from the pack. Oh, and as soon as you start serving up dinner, I head right to my crate because that's how they feed me here to be sure I'm getting my full meal. (Martha likes to steal my food and I don't mind sharing, but then I'm hungry, so my foster mom puts us in our crates at mealtime to take care of that.)

I'm very eager to please and I love to learn. I already know these commands: sit, give paw, crate...and I'm currently working on "go lay down" and "quiet", but I don't quite have the hang of them 100% of the time yet. I would love to have an owner who likes to obedience train and maybe even teach me some tricks too. I'm very proud of myself when I learn something new and get praise for doing it right!

I'm crate trained and housebroken. I don't have that husky howl, more of a lab/border collie kind of bark. My foster mom says cats are probably no-no for me because I love to chase critters. She doesn't think cats would appreciate that kind of behavior at all. But then again, I'm a big wuss when it comes to bossy dogs, so if you have a cat that stands it's ground and will swat at my nose and hiss at me, I'd probably just get scared and come running to you for comfort. Yeah, I'm that much of a wuss. You should see how the 11 lb dog in my foster home bosses me around...it's almost embarrassing how much I let her get away with! Heck, I'm supposed to be the "big black scary dog" but size apparently doesn't phase her and I think she might just be color blind because the black part doesn't scare her either.

Ok, enough about me. What about you? Am I what you're looking for in a canine companion? If so, how about you submit an application so you can start chatting up my foster mom and maybe arrange an in-person meeting to see if we "click"? They tell me there's one of those link thingies below to the adoption application, so go ahead and click on that and let's get started!

A message from my foster mom: Dex is really quite a sweet and handsome boy. He could use a little work on leash training as he tends to pull a bit, but that's easily retrained. We haven't seen any aggression in him at all. If the other dogs here try to bully him, he just comes to me for comfort. If they all gang up on him in play, he just rolls over on his back and lets them take charge. He's very affectionate and would be a great pet for kids aged 8 and up. I think he's a bit too tall and strong for younger children. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, tested heartworm negative, lifetime licensed in PA, and microchipped. He's also housebroken. This loveable guy is ready for his forever home!
