My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

STETSON is a 10 year old neutered light chocolate male Lab that weighs 85 pounds. Stetson and Ella are a bonded pair of chocolate labs. They have been used as puppy mill breeding dogs for their entire lives. They've lived for the past 8-10 years in a concrete kennel. They had cover and some water but no heat, no cool, no real light except when they were let out to roam free for days at a time. Their coats are sparse, and Stetson's is almost non existent, and washed out. They are both good with other dogs. They are unknown with cats. No kid history so they are approved for kids ages 10+.

Update (11/14): Ella and Stetson are a sweet, affectionate pair of ten year olds who would love to spend their golden years in a permanent home. They are great with dogs of all ages, setting the young uns straight when needed; in fact, Stetson acts the part of the Dutch uncle with two young exuberant dogs at his foster home. They are just fine with the cats in their foster home. They have wonderful house manners and only bark during mealtime chaos; neither has any interest in getting up on furniture but they are content to lie at your feet or lean by your side, with their heads on your lap. They are great on the leash, but also don’t roam when off leash. They weren’t too fond of the car initially, but are now seasoned passengers. They both like toys, bones and antlers. Ella will always greet you at the door with a toy in her mouth and frequently plays ball by herself if no one will humor her. They both have some arthritis in their hips so they need to live on a single story with no more than a few steps to negotiate. They have no history with young children.

Update (10/12): Watch Ella and Stetson at the adoption event yesterday here https://www.facebook.com/LabRescueLRCP/videos/886911624718008/

Update (9/29): Stetson and Ella (150448/9) chiming in:
“They said we ought to strut our stuff for ‘Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet Week’!!! The only thing ‘less adoptable’ about us is that the FPs dressed us in silver and black instead of purple and black last weekend- and what do they know anyway??? They call us the ‘grey hounds’ and the black labs, ‘the ticks’ so that ought to give you a clue about their competence.
Anyway, [CUE MOOD MUSIC]
Imagine returning home after a rough day at work to our two smiling faces and two wagging tails but…. there’s no barking and no jumping up. There’s no evidence of our even having been in the house, except the water bowl is a little lower and the toy box has been emptied. You sit down to sort the mail with our heads on your lap- or on your feet- even if we really, really, really have to go out to do our business.
We are a bonded pair of 10 year olds who ask for nothing more than the obligatory ear (or butt) scratch, a soft word and a meal every twelve hours or so, we appreciate every kind word or touch. We like to carry our toys around and to chew on a bone or antler. We would do best living on a single level since Ella has a bit of arthritis. We went for our first off leash walk/run today, exploring our foster digs, and did so well, we earned another one. Oh, and we have beautiful house manners and the fosters have never heard us bark. We did pretty well on our first cat test, but we’ve been told more are coming.”
Contact your AC to learn more about this loving and lovable pair of old shoes- old shoes, with one heck of a lot of personality and awesome lab leans. (Apologies for the poor quality photos this week)

Update (8/5): Ella and Stetson are welcome guests in their temporary foster home. Their foster reports that they are both sweet, well-behaved and easy easy guests. They require minimal care and just want to be loved.

Update (7/16): Stetson is doing great! He enjoyed the love and attention he received at the adoption day. He thinks he is a lap dog as he loves to lay stretched across your lap. He has a wicked Lab lean. He enjoys walking around and exploring the fenced in yard. Stetson enjoys chewing on toys and likes to carry them around with him. He enjoys pets and attention and loves to play with his sister Ella. When he first came to his foster he would only wag the tip of his tail, now they are greeted with a full wagging tail. Stetson enjoys getting a dog biscuit right before bed time.

Update (7/3):Ella and Stetson have made huge strides in the last 3 days, Ella in particular. Stetson is much more the extravert. Stetson is a lover and enjoys snuggling, sleeping on dog beds and has settled in nicely. He also likes to snoopervise in the kitchen. He loves his chew toys and nylabones. Stetson loves to be petted and enjoys attention from his humans.
