My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This handsome boy is called Gentle Garth. A young 1-2 year old, 75 pound (underweight) dog that we think is an Anatolian Shepherd mix. The best part is that this boy has not one ounce of protective or defensiveness in his personality like most Anatolians can have. No alpha ways at all. Gentle Garth seems to have been a quiet and somber boy who was bought by some farmer in rural TN to be a shepherd dog that stays outside 24/7 with the flock to protect them. He was left alone and probably rarely given human attention as he tended the flock and did his job. Then one day somehow this boy wandered away from the farm and was picked up and taken to a small hellhole kill shelter. He lay in the large kennel area with 10 other dogs and from time to time some would jump him and bite him. This gentle, non-aggressive soul was so pitiful when our volunteers walked in to look over the dogs they could take home that day, they could not leave those sweet brown eyes of Gentle Garth behind. He walks beautifully on a leash; he stays to himself and just wants to watch over the family where he is fostered. He has his favorite places in the house; the kitchen sink area, the hallway leading outside and outside in the yard to patrol the perimeter. He sleeps at the foot of the foster mom and dad’s bed. He is their devoted guardian and he is their love. Gentle Garth should be with someone who is home most of the time. He still needs some reassurance when people leave the house and we are learning that CMT Videos does a nice job of keeping Gentle Garth’s “country roots” in full swing as he sleeps away the hour or two he is home alone. Good with other dogs but keeping his distance at times from the older male Lab, he just minds his own dog business and dreams of days with A/C, a home to sleep in and a soft hand to show him he is loved.
