My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The beautiful Karlee (please excuse her just rescued photo...a sudsy bath/grooming and premium food to add several pounds to her very thin frame would make her a whole new girl!) has been the victim of bad luck due to no fault of her own. This beautiful Dachshund mix....with the golden tips running through her fawn-colored coat...was getting very close to her euthanasia date at a very high-kill Texas shelter. But the shelter workers (as well as our Texas rescuers) were smitten by the sweetness of this adorable and gentle Doxy with the dark, expressive eyes. Our compassionate rescuers couldn't let go of Karlee's pleading and very sweet expression and kind demeanor that was shining brightly in the dismal shelter light. She's an affectionate and curious 9 - 12 month old, 10 lb (will ideally weigh about 13 lbs) girl who needs a family to let her know she's cherished and accepted for exactly who she is (Awesome!)

Karlee was temperament tested and vetted and went into a foster home to learn about pure love and acceptance while she waited for her transport to Boulder.. She was reminded of appropriate home behavior and working on her house training skills. Karlee has come a long way and we feel positive that when she feels safe and secure with clear guidelines, she'll master her skills very quickly. We'd like Karlee to ultimately be either an only dog or with a gentle dog of similar size...she'd enjoy the companionship and fun with another dog of like-temperament. It also seems retirees would be perfect for Karlee (making her a true family member would be great) or in a very loving family with dog-loving, gentle kids.

Karlee has so much to offer and has had a very difficult time of it. It's her turn to have the attention, pure love and training that every great dog deserves. She would be the most devoted companion imaginable for a family (or individual) who has the desire to bond through training, love and clear expectations. Karlee would love nothing more than a lap with a loving touch that tells her she's a valuable and wonderful friend. She will respond with all the love and loyalty that lives inside of her. Karlee loves nothing more than to share a morning walk...and maybe a stop for coffee at a dog-friendly spot...with her favorite person. She would love to spend the day together...but can be left with a hug and a chew toy, when it's just not appropriate for a fuzzy companion. At the end of the day...she will snuggle close with the sigh of a dog that truly feels safe.

Karlee is a lightly shedding girl. With great nutrition and periodic baths/brushing, Karlee's sad shelter hair will be replaced by a healthy, cotton-soft coat with minimal shedding. Karlee will require periodic grooming and Salmon oil will be great to keep her Benji-like coat healthy, shining and matt-free.

Karlee is being fostered in Boulder. Meet and Greets are being set up and applications are currently being accepted. If interested in this adorable and sweet...and often very entertaining companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
