My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I, Nova, a two year old 80 pound, spayed, Collie/Lab mix (with maybe a bit of Great Pyrenees tossed in to account for my size) want to tell you my story of how I came to be up for adoption.

It all started the day I got picked up one wonderful, sunny day from the dog pound. I couldn’t have been more thrilled! I was just so excited to leave and come to a new place that would love me just as I am. Now I must give you a heads up, I’m not just a pretty face. Not every dog can be perfect, but I’ll do my best to show you what I’m made of! I looked in the mirror the other day and started barking at the other dog I saw. But then I realized it was just my beautiful white and tan fur gleaming back at me with two large brown eyes. I always get told how beautiful I am, it makes me feel loved and puts a smile on my face constantly.

Now, you must be wondering, can I do any tricks, am I house trained, do I like people or other animals? To answer your questions, I can sit and lay down, sometimes with difficulty depending on what’s going on around me. I can sometimes get a bit too distracted, though I will do my finest to get better at it. I’m still in the process of learning how to give my paw when asked. But I know I did well because I received many appraisals after I did it. Hopefully I can perfect it, then it will be as easy as pie. Sometimes when the humans I live with have to leave, I get told to go to my kennel. I always get a treat when I go in, so it’s not the worst thing especially since I know they’ll be coming back to me. Oh my gosh!! When I hear the door unlock followed by footsteps, I get so excited that I my tail starts wagging uncontrollably. I cry with happiness when I’m let out and I love to jump up and give my wonderful humans a hug. Unfortunately, I’m told to get down, I don’t know why, I’m just so happy to see them! Alas, I do as I’m told because I don’t want to be scolded.

I love going on walks and car rides, however sometimes I get extremely animated and bark at people walking by. I really don’t mind people at all, just some may startle me a bit with their sudden movement or if they’re running or on a bike or a scooter. I’m trying to tone down my barking at them, it’s all still relatively new to me though. If you let me sniff you, you can pet me all you like, I’d likely love you forever. I’m working on walking beside my human instead of pulling them, but it’s difficult because I want to smell everything. They are using a Gentle Leader head halter on me now. Being outside just makes me want to go exploring and chase bunnies, squirrels and birds. With that being said, I am fairly obedient and need some more coaxing regarding certain situations.

Not to toot my own horn, but I am such a cutie! I love giving the ones I care about hugs, kisses and snuggles. I am very loyal towards my humans and will want to protect them if I feel something is off. I forgot to mention earlier, I know how to play catch as well. How amazing is that? I will go after the toys you throw to me, provided they interest me and drop it before your feet without having to be asked. Pretty impressive, huh? Oh, I haven’t ever had an accident in the house either, I always go outside to do my business. My daily routine is pretty great, wake up from a long sleep on the human’s bed, go outside for a pee, come back in for my breakfast (my food has a bit of water on it, don’t like dry food 100% yet), chill about the house and go on walks. I think I have a pretty good life going on for myself since I left that other place. I’m much happier and I’m always learning new things. I just hope the home I go to next has a backyard for me to run around in and humans who will give me just as much affection and time as I’ve been getting now.

I would do best in a home without another dog. I am ok with dogs I meet on walks if they are calm like me. But the barky or excited ones make me nervous so I bark too. I love affection and attention so I would like to be the only dog in my home and get all of the attention to myself. I also think a home without cats would be best. I am not being fostered with cats so my fosters can’t say for sure, but I would love to chase all the bunnies and squirrels I see if I was allowed so I think cats would be the same. As for kids, I am friendly and love pets from kind children but because of my size and strength it’s probably best for me to go to a home with kids over 12 years old. I wouldn’t want to accidentally knock over a child or injure them with my strength should I go running by. I need an active family that will take me for long walks every day and will play with me in the yard. I also need a family willing to spend time continuing my training and take me to dog school so I can learn and socialize some more. My foster moms have been doing a great job training me so far and I love to learn and be told how smart I am so I look forward to continuing this in my new home. A family that has experience with big dogs would be best for me as I am a big girl and need people capable of handling me. I am pretty easy to live with and do my best to make you happy. And I am pretty laid back in the home so it’s not like I will be a handful to live with. I get told all the time how good of a dog I am and this makes me so happy. Now all I need to make me completely giddy is a family to call my own forever. I will be your loyal and dependable best friend...will you be mine?
