My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HUNTER: 8 Year Old Male Neutered Black Lab 75 Pounds

Hunter is looking for a new home as the family is moving to a place with no yard and they have a three year old and Hunter is not getting the time or exercise he needs.

This is what Hunter’s owner has to say about him:

I went looking for a dog almost 8 years ago and after a long day looking through all the Santa Rosa shelters, I came across an 8 month old black lab named Hunter. He was the only dog that day that spoke to me as a singe 26 year old. He was surrendered by his original owner due to a job transfer to New York City had been at the pound for about 3 weeks. I took him home the first day he was available for adoption after being neutered and chipped. We have been together ever since. Hunter has been through numerous Sonoma County humane society training classes and around 6 months of private lessons. Hunter is a very sweet boy, loves his balls and laying in the sun. As soon as he knows it’s time for a walk or play he gets very excited. Once you are out for a walk Hunter will pull at bit but will calm down once you are walking. (Golden Gate Lab Rescue would recommend a correction collar.) Once he sees another dog on the walk he will get excited and pull towards the other dog as he wants to go over and say hello. (He is not aggressive towards any dog but is excited to greet them.) We love him but feel he needs someone or some family that can include him in more of their everyday life. Exercise is everything for Hunter. Ever since our 3 year old came along he has unfortunately not gotten the attention or exercise he needs. We want to ogive him every opportunity to find a home that loves him as much as we have.

From the rescue rep:

When meeting Hunter he would jump up with excitement but currently he is living in the back yard and the garage. The family has moved out and they are keeping this home for a rental and Hunter then will go to their parents’ home to stay until we can find him a new home. Hunter is housetrained but has not been in the home over the last few months due to the small child and too much shedding in the home. You can touch Hunter all over with no issues, you can take his food bowl away, he loves to ride in cars and he likes to stand in water but not much of a swimmer. Hunter loves all dogs and gets along with large and small! Hunter knows leave it, drop, sit, stay, down and loves to go for card rides! Hunter has a very happy personality and just seems to always have a smile on his face not matter what happens to him. He is great to go on a walk or two during the day and then he would lie on his bed or with his owner for the rest of the day. If you have to leave Hunter alone he is not destructive or he does not have separation anxiety. All Hunter would need is a tune up on walking on leash, so he does not pull. We are not sure about Hunter with cats

We want to find Hunter her last and forever home!

Hunter has all his shots, he is microchipped, heartworm negative and neutered.

He is located in Santa Rosa.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
