CAPRI IS A SPECIAL NEEDS DOG. She is very shy, but there IS a home out there for her and we are determined to find it. ;)
Capri has been in our program almost a year now and would love to find a home of her very own. She is very bonded to her sister, Tootsie, also available for adoption and we would really love to place them together and have reduced the adoption fee to $150 for the pair or $100 separately. They are fully vetted and heartworm negative.
Although we are not positive, we believe Capri and four other young female rat terriers were dumped on Wye Mountain. We believe these dogs may have been used as breeding dogs in a puppy mill situation. They were all too fearful to simply rescue, we had to use traps and trap all five of these girls which took five weeks!
Capri needs a calm home that can give her a couple of weeks to settle in as she is leery of new people and surroundings. Once she realizes you are a good person, she becomes lovable and would really enjoy lounging in your lap, in your bed, on the sofa, etc. as she does in her foster home. Capri, however, does love to play too, especially with her sister, Tootsie, and a fenced yard is a must to keep her contained because she can run like the wind!
Capri does well with her house manners and will use a puppy pad, but you would want to start with a crate until she got familiar with your routine. She is great in her crate.
Capri is equally leery of everyone, so men, children, women, it doesn't really matter ... until she learns you can be trusted it doesn't matter. Then she would be just fine with everyone, including kids. She has never offered to bite, growl or snap at anyone even when first trapped. Another dog would be a HUGE help to Capri so she can follow her/his lead. ;)
Tootsie is much more trusting and outgoing, yet still very shy until she gets settled in. This is one reason they make a great pair. ;)
