Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Dustin is an incredibly cute ball of cottony fur that climbs into your heart (and lap) with a hug and a wiggle. Once he gets a sudsy bath and grooming...Dustin will absolutely be one of the cutest guys around. At 3 - 4 years old and about 11 lbs...such a perfect size and age - these small mixes are known to live very long lives. Dustin is old enough to have left puppyish behavior behind...he's perfectly house trained and always respectful of the home. Yet he's young enough to have many, many active years left for being a great companion and lap-dog extraordinaire!
Dustin is every bit the puppy-like guy...fun and active....but at the same time he is a very well-behaved dog who is not needy or unnecessarily vocal - he expresses himself with his wagging tail and excited kisses. At this early point in Dustin's development, he loves everyone..be it human or canine. We want to nurture this positive vision of the world by matching Dustin to a family who expresses their love for him in many different ways.
The Houston shelter...who very rarely puts a temperament description on any dog since there are about 450 dogs in the facility at any given time...were so impressed by Dustin's sweet nature that they sent along the following about this very special guy:
This cute little scruffy boy will follow you around the house because he LOVES people. He walks great on a leash and some at the shelter have reported seeing him dance when happy...so cute! Dustin enjoys his small-breed friends here at BARC and prefers his play-time with them instead of the big and pushier dogs. He will be an amazing best friend and sweet lap-dog to a very lucky family!
Right now, Dustin is a blank slate who will soak up positive feedback with every effort to be the best behaved guy around. We think Dustin would be great with very gentle older children (12+ would be great) or with an active adult family who will include him in their activities. Dustin is so portable that he can easily be a constant companion - he would love nothing more than walks, trips to the store (he's a great window-shopping friend) or even a place at a pet-friendly workplace. Dustin is young enough that he can be introduced to virtually any situation...and if there is love and gentle guidance...he can succeed.
Dustin's new family has to have the excitement to make a long-term commitment to this special guy with the great temperament. He requires behavioral guidance and tons of love (like every dog) to keep his positive attitude and love of life an active part of his personality.
Dustin is either a non-shedding or very lightly shedding guy (it's difficult to know for certain until his dull shelter hair grows out to be replaced by a healthy and cotton-soft new coat). Dustin will require sudsy baths (his striking coat is pure white with beautiful golden markings), periodic grooming and great nutrition (a daily Salmon Oil supplement would be a great addition) to keep his coat cottony-soft and matt-free.
Farfel's is very excited to participate in finding this special guy his forever family. Applications are currently being accepted for adorable Dustin. If interested in this devoted and sweet...and often very entertaining companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
