Facts about Lissa

  • Breed: Paint/Pinto/Quarterhorse Mix
  • Color: Paint
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Large
  • Sex: Female
Lissa is a beautiful 10 year old, 15.1 HH Quarterhorse/Paint mare. She was rescued 8 years ago in conjunction with a CAS rescue, but is NOT a resident at the sanctuary. Her rescuer has put a lot of time, training, and love into Lissa and wants to find her a forever home in a safe, nurturing environment. Her owner is no longer able to care for her and wishes to place her with a knowledgeable horse person for long term bonding.

She is professionally schooled in walk-trot discipline and has excellent ground manners. Just back to riding, a skilled non aggressive gentle rider-trainer can bring her potential out quickly. Lissa has a strong personality, is curious and alert. Needs a stall plus pasture turnout with a mild easygoing companion. She has lots of potential for many years of enjoyment. Asking $900 adoption fee.

If interested in adopting Lissa, please contact her owner directly.

About Catskill Animal Sanctuary

About Our Rescue Group...

Located in the New York’s Hudson Valley, Catskill Animal Sanctuary (CAS) is a 110-acre haven for horses and farm animals rescued from cruelty and neglect. In addition to emergency rescue, CAS provides innovative programs that educate the public about the sentience of farm animals, and the devastating impacts of agribusiness and institutionalized cruelty on animals, people, and the planet.

CAS offers weekend and special group tours, vegan cooking classes, speaking engagements, a summer day camp for kids, and a host of compassionate programming year round at its primarily solar-powered Sanctuary. Lodging is available on site at The Homestead, a beautifully-renovated 1813 farmhouse.

Since 2001, CAS has rescued over 3,500 animals, and has worked in tandem with law enforcement to bring animal abusers to justice.

Our Adoption Process...

We ask all adopters to complete an adoption application, specific to the species they intend to adopt. These can be found on our website at We then set up a meeting between adopter and animal to see if the two are compatible. We require a site visit to see where the animal will be living prior to approving an adoption. Things we look for include type and condition of fencing, size and condition of pasture, shelter- run in/shed/barn/stall, availability of food and water, type of bedding to be used. We ask for 2 references for all adopters. There is also an adoption fee for all animals which varies by species ranging from $15-$500.
