My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We got emails from our Texas rescuer about Satchel...no one could accept that this very handsome and super-sweet dog was about to be euthanized. Both the shelter and the rescuers were set on finding a foster, rescue or adopter immediately for this beautiful and kind Cairn/Poodle mix. Satchel was recognized as having a great temperament which earned him a ticket out of the shelter and onto a transport to Colorado. Satchel carries the adorable scruffiness and engaging personality of his Terrier side with the intelligence and common sense of the Poodle.

As beautiful as Satchel is on the outside, it doesn't compare with the love and good-will that flows from the heart of this 9 - 12 month old, 21 lb guy. As our rescuer drove away from the dreary, high-kill shelter, Satchel was so filled with joy that he climbed into the front seat, laid his paw on our rescuer's leg, breathed a huge sigh of relief and fell fast asleep. He slept all the way to the vet's office for his assessments...and passed with flying colors! So...off Satchel went to his foster home to be reminded about respectful house behavior. His great Texas foster mom continues work on his socialization skills in the real world..trips to Home Depot, Pet Smart and the park are bringing out Satchel's natural goodness. He is developing his skills and continues to get sweeter and more comfortable with time.

Satchel's time in Texas waiting for his transport is time well spent..he appears to be bouncing back from any trauma he suffered at the shelter. We feel..as does his Texas foster family...that with a loving, nurturing and committed home..Satchel will leave his sad start behind. With patient and consistent leadership, Satchel's self-confidence will emerge. He will settle into his new life with an open to anything attitude of a reborn dog. While he may be initially shy, once he's assured...he will emerge with all the joy that's living inside of him.

Since Satchel has gotten an A for sweetness, cuddling and general positive behavior...he's ready to be a devoted family member. We envision him in a home either with older, dog-crazy children who can play with and love him with a gentle touch... or in a home with active retirees who will shower time and attention on this devoted guy. We would never want Satchel in a situation where he's alone for many long hours. Instead we would love for him to be taken along on hikes (he would be overjoyed, a perfect size and a natural on the trails), adventures and visits with dog-loving friends. He's almost impossible not to fall in love with. As a young guy, Satchel is a blank slate just waiting for direction to be the best adult dog he can be. Positive reinforcement group obedience class with his family would be perfect to guide Satchel with kind yet consistent boundaries.

Satchel appears to be a non-shedding dog although we can't be absolutely certain until he loses his sad shelter hair and it's replaced by the healthy and cotton-soft coat of a dog that has the benefit of great nutrition. Satchel will require periodic grooming to keep his lovely coat healthy and matt-free.

Satchel will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Thursday 7/2/15. If interested in this sweet and cuddly companion (who is often entertaining and so fun), please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
