My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Aubrey is still waiting for the perfect person to pick her as their new family member. Aubrey was living alone in a field in a bad part of town. People were not nice to her, and she was very scared. Then one day a nice lady gave her food, she began feeding Aubrey every day. One day a trap was set out for Aubrey, and the woman left a note asking that they contact her as she had become attached to the feral dog she was feeding. Front Street Animal Shelter contacted her and said that she had to be trapped and would not be allowed to live in her field anymore. The woman contacted us and asked if we could rescue this dog she had never even touched, and sent a picture of her off in the distance watching the woman. All of our fosters were full, but one stepped up to foster her anyways because she knew if Aubrey had gone to Front Street Animal Shelter she would fail her Behavior Evaluation because of her fear, and be killed like so many others.
Our experienced dog trapping volunteers went out to assess the situation, and were able to snare Aubrey the first night, after getting close enough to feed her some extra yummy treats! She was transported late that night to her new foster home, where she was left to settle in for the night. The next day when her foster mom got home from work she went into the garage and let Aubrey out of her kennel to see what she would do. She sat down and watched Aubrey check out the garage, startling herself a few times when she bumped into something. After a few minutes of exploring Aubrey came up to her foster mom and sat right on her lap and wanted nothing more than to be pet and comforted.
Having a believed feral, 96lb dog who looks you in the eye while sitting down, want to sit in your lap with their face next to yours might seem scary, but Aubrey is one of the sweetest and friendliest dogs I have ever met and she did not make me feel uncomfortable at all. She was obviously scared, but just as obvious was that at some point she had known love. It is a small miracle but when Aubrey went into the vet she got a clean bill of health and thank goodness was not pregnant which is always a possibility with street dogs. She is approximately 2years old, 96lbs, and adorable!
Fast forward a few months and Aubrey is now vetted and doing great! She is SO friendly and loves to have anybody pet her and sit with her. She also LOVES fetch and toys! Everything from her kong balls to a basketball she can chase around delight her. While Aubrey loves people she can become very uncomfortable in new situations. She has gained confidence and does not freeze up in fear when walking down the street anymore, but still has some anxiety when somewhere new. She loves going to the park and going for walks, but still needs confidence in situations that can be scary such as a busy street. She is good in the car, and sleeps quietly, without accidents in her big kennel all night.
Aubrey is good with other big dogs who want to play, but due to her size can be offensive to dogs who do not appreciate an enthusiastic and exuberant play buddy. Aubrey is also not good with cats or small dogs as she is too big and does not understand she will hurt them. Aubrey likes kids, but because of her size, she is 96lbs, and her training needs she will not be homed with children under 10.
Aubrey will not be adopted to anyone who rents. Because of her size and the possibility of being classified as a ‘restricted’ breed she would be at risk of being returned in the future and we want to avoid causing her to endure a stressful situation like that.
Aubrey is a fantastic dog who needs a compassionate leader to help her continue to experience new things and have fun together. If you think you have room in your heart for Aubrey please visit our website at norcalbullybreedrescue.com and fill out an adoption application.
