My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When we are asked about a special rescue dog that is snuggly, sweet and very fun-loving, we can't help but think of Megan. Her smile is shining...and maybe just a bit mischievous. This curious and really, really smart 5 - 6 year old (such a perfect age for the very long-living Maltese..old enough to have left puppyish behavior behind and young enough to have many, many active years left). This beautiful 9 lb Maltese (may be a mix but we don't really see another breed that we can identify) is a truly great companion as well as a lap dog extraordinaire. There aren't many visible signs (other than her initial shyness upon meeting new people) that Megan was in a very scary situation...she and 7 others were the pets of a woman who meant well but found the world too difficult a place - she ended her life and left 8 dogs homeless. They were transferred to a high-kill rural OK shelter about to face euthanasia. Upon hearing of the plight of these beautiful dogs, our compassionate Oklahoma rescuers put their story out to the rescue community. Farfel's made the decision to help 6 of the 8 dogs (the other 2 were already adopted)...they're sweet, adorable and deserving of great lives!

Megan's OK foster had the following to say about this very kind girl:

This is gorgeous Megan, (one of those babies of the woman who ended her life) and boy has it been rough on her! All she knows is she is not at home with her family (family life is very important to sweet Megan) and things are simply NOT right. Megan is unsure of her new surroundings but despite what she has been through thus far, (speaks of the resilient nature of wonderful Megan) she is settling in nicely. This girl has been a strictly inside pup (loves her bed) and cannot handle the temps that an Oklahoma summer has to offer. Megan is completely house trained (so wonderful), good with other dogs and fine with feline friends. She is 5 - 6 years old and would prefer not to spend lots of time with young kids. She's never mean or aggressive but I can see her discomfort with very loud voices, fast, frenetic movements and children's often rough handling of a very small dog. Our wonderful Megan wants nothing more than to be loved by someone who is willing to spoil her rotten (her great energy deserves only the greatest treatment and love). This girl is sweet as can be and is very happy in your lap giving out kisses to show how much she loves you (or being a foot-warmer while I do computer work). Megan is a sweetie-pie that makes me feel more optimistic about the love that's in the world.

Megan's pre-transport OK foster had more wonderful words to say about this very kind girl:

Meet our incredibly sweet Megan. She's a 5 - 6 year old female Maltese (or Maltipoo) who came to us with her 7 siblings because her human passed away and there was nobody to care for them. Megan is a truly kind and sweet girl who, despite what she's been through, is full of the purest love and affection. Megan is so great with other dogs and feline friends but would prefer not be around the loud voices and quick movements of young children as they make her quite nervous (although she would never take the path of aggression). Megan is not meant to be an outside dog! She is strictly inside because the heat and humidity of Oklahoma summers takes a toll on her. She would love a life of being a best friend, lap dog and very loved family member.

Megan is such an easy girl to bring along. You can just scoop her up and she'll lie happily in your arms. Or grab a backpack for a hike...if the path is too long, Megan will snuggle down to enjoy the hike with a great view from above.

Megan derives so much joy from her relationships, we would love to see her in a family that often stays at home..or chooses to bring along a sweet and kind fuzzy family member. Megan would shine in an office setting or in pretty much any situation where a sweet pup is accepted. Megan is a truly great dog that has so much to offer!

Megan's pre-transport foster had the following to say about lovebug Megan:

Sweet and kind Megan would be perfect for a retired couple or individual. She is a little timid at first but once I sat quietly with her, spoke gently about how much I loved her and gave her tons of belly rubs..she couldn't stop wagging her tail...it was as if she was reborn! All Megan wants to make her happy is to sit or lie by my side (or on my lap) and follow me as I wander around the house (although, she does get tired of my wanderings and will lie down quietly in an available dog bed or couch). Megan is working on her leash skills and is learning like a champ. She only likes to potty outside - hooray! Megan is so respectful of my home and me that she would never consider having an accident or destroying anything in my house. Megan sleeps on her bed (or my bed occasionally) all night with no problems whatsoever. She's very careful to be quiet and never snores! Megan is such a sweet and kind dog! She just needs some love and attention. When she understands that she's well-loved and respected, her self-esteem will skyrocket and there won't be a better companion in the world! I just love her!

This adorable and very loyal Maltese (or Maltipoo) is a non-shedding girl. This breed combination is also considered to be the most hypoallergenic available for those with allergy concerns. Megan will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep her stunning white coat cottony-soft, shining and matt-free.

Megan will arrive on transport in Denver on 7/11/15.
