My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When we are asked about a special rescue dog that is snuggly, sweet and very fun-loving, we can't help but think of Thor. His smile is shining...and maybe just a bit mischievous. This curious and really, really smart 2 - 3 years old (such a perfect age for the very long-living Doxie mix..old enough to have left puppyish behavior behind and young enough to have many, many active years left). This beautiful 10 or so lb Dachshund (appears to be a Doxy/Maltese mix) is a truly great companion as well as a lap dog extraordinaire. There aren't many visible signs (other than his initial shyness upon meeting new people) that Thor was in a very scary situation...he and 7 others were the pets of a woman who meant well but found the world too difficult a place - she ended her life and left 8 dogs homeless. They were transferred to a high-kill rural OK shelter about to face euthanasia. Upon hearing of the plight of these beautiful dogs, our compassionate Oklahoma rescuers put their story out to the rescue community. Farfel's made the decision to help 6 of the 8 dogs (the other 2 were already adopted)...they're sweet, adorable and deserving of great lives!

Thor's OK foster had the following to say about this very kind guy:

Thor is a 2 - 3 year old, Dachshund/Maltese who came to us with 7 other dogs because they are in desperate need of new homes - such a sad situation. This gorgeous boy is as sweet as a young dog can be! Thor is great with other dogs and cats...and even older children who promote chaos in the household would make sweet Thor very happy. Thor is is well rounded and is very agreeable with people, dogs and cats alike. He loves to kiss and show how much he loves you with a promise that he'll be the best boy he has the skills to be. Thor is a house trained sweetie-pie and very clean about himself. Thor is very respectful of his home and others possessions. He is accustomed to being an inside-only boy. Thor (like virtually all dogs) can only withstand limited amounts of the extreme heat and humidity of an Oklahoma Summer.

We picture Thor as the best friend to retirees. He'd be so loyal.. and overjoyed to share his love and good will. There's also no question that Thor would be the most popular guy on the block. Once comfortable, he loves to engage and just be his entertaining, adorable self. Even though Thor is usually up for pretty much any activity, he's not pushy or yappy. Exercise..perhaps a walk in the sunshine to socialize with neighbors, and mental stimulation that comes from his time with his humans.. is important to this guy to keep him happy and well-behaved. it's not that he requires extensive amounts, just enough to keep him healthy and stimulated.

Thor is such an easy guy to bring along. You can just scoop him up and he'll lie happily in your arms. Or grab a backpack for a hike...if the path is too long, Thor will snuggle down to enjoy the hike with a great view from above.

Thor derives so much joy from his relationships, we would love to see him in a family that often stays at home..or chooses to bring along a sweet and kind fuzzy family member. would shine in an office setting or in pretty much any situation where a sweet pup is accepted. He is a great dog who deserves this love and consistency in his life

Thor's pre-transport foster had the following to say about this lovebug:

Sweet and kind Thor would be perfect for a retired couple or individual. He is a little timid at first but once I sat quietly with him, spoke gently about how much I loved him and gave him tons of belly rubs..he couldn't stop wagging his tail...it was as if he was reborn! All Thor wants to make him happy is to sit or lie by my side (or on my lap) and follow me as I wander around the house (although, he does get tired of my wanderings and will lie down quietly in an available dog bed or couch). Thor is working on his leash skills and is learning like a champ. He only likes to potty outside - hooray! Gabriel is so respectful of my home and me that he would never consider having an accident or destroying anything in my house. He sleeps on his bed (or my bed occasionally) all night with no problems whatsoever. He's very careful to be quiet and never snores! Thor is such a sweet and kind boy! He just needs some love and attention. When he understands that he's well-loved and respected, his self-esteem will skyrocket and there won't be a better companion in the world! I just love him!

This adorable and very loyal Doxie/Maltese is a non-shedding guy. He will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his stunning caramel-colored coat cottony-soft, shining and matt-free.

Thor will arrive on transport in Denver on 7/11/15.
