My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

World, meet the beautiful Aikia!

Aikia is a beautiful 1/2 Alaskan Malamute mix, 1/4 Samoyed and 1/4 German Shepherd dog mix who is about 5 years old and is searching for her forever family.

Aikia is a very affectionate girl who absolutely loves her people. She's always up for a good belly rub and loves to show off her tricks. Aikia knows how to sit, lay down and even how to high five! She loves going on adventures and does great in the car. She even keeps a clean kennel at the shelter and is most likely crate trained already as well. She would love nothing more than to be someone's companion, preferably in a calm, quieter home.

Aikia was left at the shelter by her previous owners because they no longer had time for her due to their grandchildren moving in. When she came to the shelter Aikia had a slight bunny hop with her back legs (as you can see in her video) but has been checked out by a local vet. It appears she has suffered an injury in her past that left her with some damaged nerves that cause her to have a couple odd back legs. Aikia is however in no pain (except for a flare up here and there which is easily managed with some anti-inflammatories) and can still have a happy and healthy rest of her life. The vet diagnosed it as a mechanical issue due to pressure on her spinal cord from boney protrusions in her spine. She is still however a happy go lucky girl, but would really benefit from occasional water therapy treatments.

Even though Aikia is non-reactive to other dogs, because of her spinal pressure we think she would thrive best as the only pet in her forever home, and because of this will also require a home with no small children.

Aikia is a wonderfully sweet girl who would like to find a comfy bed and a loving family to spend the rest of her life with. She doesn't let her disability slow her down and goes through each and every day with and smile and a wagging tail. She's true to her Malamute heritage and will even give you a good "wooo" here and there! If you're in search of a loving companion and you are great at giving belly rubs, please consider adding Aikia to your family, you won't regret it!
