Shay Shay's Story...
Shay Shay is a good girl who was found wandering aimlessly. She was brought to the shelter and given plenty of food and fresh water and a bed. She was only 8 months old when she was found and looked young and healthy and seemed active and loving. Now she is just over a year old, and this sweet girl wasn't as normal as we thought! She received rescue and was sent to the clinic for her spay. Luckily, they noticed that her breathing was labored and took an x-ray. Shay Shay was diagnosed with a diaphramatic hernia, which can be very dangerous to repair since the lungs would definitely collapse during surgery. The x-rays were sent to the rescue, who showed them to two veterinarians . Neither was comfortable doing the surgery. So Shay Shay stayed at the shelter as the staff debated what to do. Was she adoptable? Should she be euthanized at only 8 months old? If she wasn't spayed, pregnancy would surely kill her. Miraculously, a local clinic offered to see what they could do to help her, knowing that she might not survive the attempt. Surgery was tedious, and nothing was in normal places in this sweet girl's body. Her oxygen level dropped dangerously low, but the spay was successfully completed. She is healing nicely from that procedure. She will be a special needs dog, but she doesn't know it. She is happy and wants to live and to have a family of her own. Will anyone take a chance on her? Will anyone give her a safe place for her life, however long? This girl is now a little over a year old, walks well on a leash, and deserves to know life with a family. We can only hope a kind-hearted and compassionate person will help Shay Shay!
