Copper's Story...
Are you ready for a four-legged Ferrari? Meet Copper – a 3 year old Aussie, full of high octane energy! There are pros and cons of owning this breed of dog. First the pros: Anyone familiar with an Australian Shepherd knows they are highly intelligent and eager to learn. They can be easily trained with positive reinforcement. They are also a herding breed that needs responsibility. In turn, they will be very loyal and protective. Copper knows basic commands and has shown a great interest in Agility (his favorite is the tunnel). He walks well on lead and is highly focused with treats and positive reinforcement. He loves going for rides and prefers to ride shotgun with the windows down.

Now the con's: Aussies do not fare well if left alone. They can become insecure quickly, and that can lead to unwanted behavior. They crave companionship and need a job to do, and Copper is no exception. He needs daily exercise with a focus. Throw a Frisbee or a ball; take him for a hike or get him on an agility course. He needs a strong leader to be his guide. Timid and shy need not apply.

The ideal furever home will be an adult home with no children under 14 years old or cats. His owner will need to lead an active lifestyle that will incorporate Copper. He has been an inside dog his entire life; therefore, he will not fare well in an outdoor kennel. His future owner will need to assess if further training is required to deter unwanted herding. (CM)

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Copper, a Pulaski Australian Shepherd dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Australian Shepherd for sale in Pulaski, or seeking a Australian Shepherd dog from a breeder in Pulaski.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Pulaski already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Pulaski breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Australian Shepherd breeders who help with Australian Shepherd rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Pulaski paves the way for another one to be saved.
