Why Choose me?

Update 7/10/15: Keno & Sadie started their heartworm treatment this week at the shelter. Keep your fingers crossed that all goes well for them, and that they find great adoptive or foster homes ASAP! But, in any event, at least they're on their way to being heartworm-free!
PLEASE NOTE: We have to reduce each of their sponsorships by $200 to help with the cost of their heartworm meds/treatment. But that means they will be going to their foster or adoptive homes altered, UTD on their basic shots, microchipped, and either treated for heartworms (or with the remaining meds for treatment accompanying them), and with a 6-month supply of heartworm preventative. They will need to be retested for heartworms 6 months out, and there is a small chance they will need further treatment, but all of that would true even if they had been treated in rescue or by an adopter for a MUCH higher initial cost.

Update 7/6: Keno is a volunteer favorite who has been at Animal Control for almost six weeks with no interest. It’s breaking our hearts because he is such a great boy! A big part of his problem is that when he’s in his run and sees people and dogs walking by he barks and jumps around in his run, which can look angry or unruly to someone who doesn’t know him. But he’s just a young, happy dog who is forced to spend too much time cooped up in a run and wants to come out and play. That’s all he’s trying to say. We keep telling him to sit quietly at the door of his run and give people sad, soulful looks but that’s just not his style 😉 Keno loves everybody, entertains himself with toys, and would love to have play dates all day long with other playful dogs. Unfortunately we cannot let the dogs at Animal Control play together in a pen, but if two dogs are well matched we do let them play through the chainlink of two adjoining pens. That’s what we did with Keno and Clio and we captured some of the action on video for you – check it out in the link above. They were playful but gentle, and completely silent too – Keno had no need to bark because he was right where he wanted to be – having fun with Cleo and getting some lovin’ from us.

Update 6/24: Keno has tested positive for a mild case of heartworms, but we’re starting treatment for him and he’ll be good as new.

Update 6/18: Thanks to donations to the Spay/Neuter Fund, Keno has been neutered, microchipped, and is up to date on his vaccinations!

Update 6/12: Keno is still an affectionate boy who loves being a lap dog, but he’s also shown me what a playful boy he can be, too. He likes toys so I’d throw one, and he’d jump off the picnic table to fetch it. He’d hop back up, and then drop the toy off the side of the table. At first, I thought it was just an accident, but after Keno did the same thing a few more times I decided that Keno either liked watching the toy fall or he wanted me to play fetch, too. After our game, Keno was ready for pets and treats. He’s a great dog who’s still waiting for his special person to love.

5/29: When I entered Keno’s kennel, he came running out to greet me. I think I was his first visitor, and he was happy to see me. In the interaction pen, I sat on the picnic table, and Keno hopped up to join me putting his head in my lap. Soon, he was giving me kisses. Keno is a sweet and affectionate boy who wants to be loved. Give him some treats and pets and you’ve got a devoted little buddy.
