Update 7/7: I enjoyed my time with Nakita today. After she did her usual exploring, she sat at my feet quietly enjoying the morning with me. When I returned her to her kennel, I saw a note on her kennel sheet stating that Nakita is not good with small animals. I asked the officer who brought her in about that and she said that when she picked Nakita up she had been having a lot of fun chasing chickens. When she saw the officer, she ran up to her as though to proudly say, “Look what I’ve been doing!” Nakita is a great dog, but she probably does not need to be in a home with small animals–especially chickens!

7/6: Nakita is a sweet, beautiful girl. She came to me right away ready to go for a walk. Once we reached the interaction pen, she wanted to explore or watch other dogs nearby. She wasn’t interested in toys or treats but did like being petted. It was a hot day, so after checking out every inch of the interaction pen, Nakita hopped up on the picnic table to enjoy some shade under my umbrella. I thought that was pretty smart–she was cooler and had a good view of all that was going on instead of taking advantage of the shade beneath the table. From what I observed today, Nakita seems to be a quiet, mild-mannered girl. I’ve yet to hear a Husky howl, but we’ll just have to wait and see!
