*Update 11/30/2016. Due to no fault of his own Rocco had to be moved into a boarding facility. He is shutting down and needs a foster or adopter ASAP!*

Rocco is an incredibly loving dog with a painful past- the use of a harsh training regimen of shock collars, choke chains, and negative reinforcement has made this three year old boy a little unsure of people and of himself, but once you win his trust Rocco is your friend for life. Rocco needs a family who is willing to put the effort in to restore his faith in people using only positive reinforcement and patience- he promises to return your investment in him tenfold with all the love in his huge heart. Here is Rocco in his own words:

"Hi Guys! My name is Rocco. I like to go for walks and I get excited about new smells but I calm down pretty quickly. At home I'm happy snuggled up with my person. I even seem to be ok with other dogs of all different sizes. I know basic commands but still forget a little bit when we go new places because I'm so excited! All I want is a family to call my own."

About Virginia Paws for Pits

About Our Rescue Group...

VPFP is on a mission to educate the public on the misconceptions that go hand in hand with "pit bulls" we strive to match families with the perfect dog for their lifestyle and activity level to ensure that the adoption is a success for all involved. Pit bulls and mixes account for 58% of dogs in shelters and nearly 2800 are killed every day in the united states. We promote spaying and neutering in the community and encourage our adopters to use their dogs as ambassadors for this misunderstood class of dogs, by going out into the community and making a difference.

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoption fees vary from $50-$250 depending on the age of the animal, the amount of care provided, and the duration of their time in our rescue program. You can apply online via our website and we will be in touch with you in 48-72 hours. We do a reference check with your vet to make sure all animals in the home are current on vaccinations and have been spayed/neutered. We verify with landlords that the applicant can have a pet and there are no size or breed restrictions and finally we conduct a home inspection. Once approved there is an additional contract to sign stating that the adopter is taking over responsibility of the dog and that if at ANY time he/she is unable to care for the dog they must be returned to VPFP with ample notification to our board members.
